Las Vegas Shooting - I'm Not Sure If This Has Anything To Do With The Shooting, But No One Has Mentioned The Fact That There's An Abandoned 33-Room Motel On The Concert Venue Grounds.

There are a lot of photos in this post. If you have Reddit Enhancement Suie, don't click on the camera icon. Just click on the blue hyperlink for the full-sized image.
So - Here is something I happened to notice on the FBI's website
It's a map of sections of the Route 91 Harvest Festival Site for use in assisting victims of the October 1, 2017 shooting in Las Vegas in collecting their personal effects. Look at the map closely. Does anything in particular jump out at you? Something that's never been discussed before?
Here's a big hint.
Apparently, there's an abandoned 33-room motel located within the concert venue. I haven't seen The LVMPD, the FBI, or any mainstream media/independent journalists mention this.
The motel was built in 1959 and was called The White Sands Motel.
I had hoped to be able to share a great video in this post. It was a Google Earth fly-over of the whole area. using actual satellite images from the day after the shooting. Unfortunately, as you can see below, the channel that posted it has been taken down by Youtube.
Link to removed video
I did manage to capture some screen shots before the video was taken down and I archived them.
Here's a screen shot from 0:47 and I went ahead and labeled certain places -
Morning after overview of Las Vegas Village
You can tell it's an actual satellite view from the day after the shooting because if you look at that Lawn Chair Seating Area, you can see all the lawn chairs and personal effects that people left behind as they fled the scene. (those white specs.) Also - remember that one police officer transmission that said shots were being fired from Gate 7? I've labeled Exit Gate 7, as well as Exit Gate 6 (where the cameraman of the Rare First Shots video exited the venue) and Exit Gate 5 (where he stopped to call his friends to find out where they were.)
Here's another screen shot from the same video showing a better view of the Motel.
3-dimensional view of abandoned motel
Here is the only other screen shot I have from the now-deleted video.
Zoomed out view of the entire area
In this view, you can see the motel, the dirt and paved parking lots on the other side of Giles Street, and the aviation fuel tanks. Notice the building where I've drawn the orange line. That is the business where the B&W security camera parking lot footage that was shown on Tucker Carlson's show came from. The person's channel that got with the business owner to obtain that footage was 5X5 News. His channel featured the whole hour and a half video - not just the part that was shown on Tucker. It is this same person who made the flyover video and it's his channel that has now been deleted.
About the Motel
White Sands Motel Circa 1978
According to the below article from the Las Vegas Sun, the motel closed in 1999.
How Much is a Dilapidated Strip Motel Worth?
"The shape of the White Sands property “adds to the complexity” of what could be developed there, Parks said. The rectangular site has little frontage along Las Vegas Boulevard and is surrounded on its other three sides by MGM Resorts International-owned festival grounds. Investors could “maybe” build retail space or try to “squeeze a hotel on there,” Parks said. As he sees it, MGM is the logical buyer but would not pay $25 million.
The Las Vegas Sun article also has a slide show with different photographs of the motel. I don't think that tall white entrance sign that has "White Sands" in red letters is big enough or wide enough for someone to be able to stand on and shoot from. But what about the part of the sign that is closer to the ground? You can see it behind the barbed wired in Image 3 of the slide show. Not sure if the top part of that lower sign is wide enough for someone to stand on, either.
When I looked at the address on Google Street view I could see a sign out front that said "Available Parcel" and gave an email address to contact. The sign also had a rendering of a tall skinny tower as an example of something that could possibly built on the site. I couldn't zoom in close enough to get a good picture of the actual tower rendering, but here's an April 2017 Google Street View of the sign.
Take note of the above photo because I'll be coming back to it later.
Here's a photo of the motel at night when it was still in operation.
Next is a photo taken from the interior driveway looking back towards Las Vegas Blvd. North wing, check-in area and Excalibur Hotel are visible and labeled. Image
Here's two views of the former entrance sign side by side. One is looking towards the Mandalay Bay Hotel to the Southwest and the other is looking towards the Tropicana Hotel (East Tower - closest to Hooters) Image
Also - another view of the pool area looking towards the NE. MGM Grand, Tropicana East Tower and Hooters all visible as well as the base of the former entrance sign. Image
This next photo taken after the shooting shows enough of the motel above those teal seats on risers for you get a general idea of just how high the roof was. It looks to be higher than those teal seats in front of it, but that may just be due to the angle the photo was taken from.
The Night of the Shooting
Here's a video I watched several weeks ago. A woman tells her story about her and her boyfriend's escape from the venue. She doesn't have any footage from while the shooting was taking place, but she does have some footage of her and her friend walking around the venue before the shooting started.
HOW WE ESCAPED THE ROUTE 91 HARVEST FESTIVAL SHOOTING IN LAS VEGAS
About 20 seconds into the video, her boyfriend has talked her into riding the Sky Flyer Ride that was on the north side of the venue - north of the Motel. I think this was about an hour or so before the shooting. Here's a screen shot as they're starting to rise up into the air and you can see the White Sands former entrance sign.
In this second screen shot, they're starting to go higher up in the air and at one point they're pretty much directly over the motel. I had to lighten the photo a bit to get the motel to show up better, but overall, the place was not lit up very well.
In the third screen shot, the ride is almost over and they're starting to come down. - Image
Initially, I had wondered what all those unmarked white cars in front of the fence that separates Las Vegas Blvd. and the sidewalk from the motel on the other side of the fence were. The cars are all parked backed in - facing out towards Las Vegas Blvd. Later, I was able to determine that they were just police cars.
I also went back and watched that Raymond Page video.
RAW VIDEO: Escape from Las Vegas shooting
This screen shot is from the very last frame. You can see one of the white cars in the driveway. In the inset, you can also see the same two signs I posted from Google street view earlier.
I also watched another Raymond Page video where he loaded wounded people into his Clark County truck and drove them to a nearby ambulance near Las Vegas Blvd. & Tropicana Ave.
Screen shot 1
Screen Shot 2
What about the roof of the motel? The area closest to the pool seems to be a little higher than the roof area of the rest of south wing the building. The check-in office closest to Las Vegas Blvd. seems to be higher than the rest of the roof on the north wing. Could that roof area have been a possible place for someone to have been able to fire shots in the direction of the Excalibur or the Tropicana, accounting for some of the reports of shootings near other hotels?
Jason Goodman of Crowdsource the Truth did a live stream on 11/11/2017 and he walked right by the motel and even stopped to film an unmarked cop car. I think he was so focused on the car he didn't even notice the motel.
Here's a screen shot
I wonder if that's Las Vegas Police undercover or FBI?
Another question - Who is responsible for making sure people could not get in that area? I would think it would be the property owner (Colleli) and not MGM since they don't own that parcel.
I really don't know if the motel could have played some part in the shooting, but I did think it was odd that no one has said anything about it. I just wanted to share what info I was able to find out. Maybe some of you will pick up on something I missed. Maybe some of you Las Vegans will be able to provide more information abut this motel.

Lessons learned from my first Vegas trip

Some friends of mine got married in Vegas last weekend. This was my first trip so here are some of the lessons I’ve learned after 6 days 5 nights. This is a long post, but hopefully someone will find it helpful.
Transportation
Spirit Airlines: this is a cheap way to get to/from Vegas. Expect that they charge a-la-cart for food, drinks, checked bags, overhead bin space, extra legroom and they don’t provide wifi or inflight entertainment. The luggage limit is 40 pounds. If you don’t print your boarding pass at home, it will cost you $10 a ticket to have them do it at the airport. The ticket prices for my wife and I were such that we got the first row upgrade (lots of extra leg room) one checked bag and still came out ahead. If you are tall buy additional leg space or prepare for an uncomfortable flight.
Shuttle from Airport to Hotel: This was $11 per person, if I had it to do over again… I would have just used UbeLyft
Walking: Wow, I walked a lot. My watch and phone both confirm about 60 miles of walking. (Did a lot of exploring on my first trip to Vegas). Wear REALLY comfortable shoes and/or carry flip-flops
Monorail: At one point I just didn’t want to walk back to the hotel and took the monorail to nearby. $5 a person. The view was OK, I am sure it is by far the fastest way to get around, but my hotel was still a bit of a walk from the nearest stop.
Ride Share: I had never used UbeLyft before this trip. This makes your life so much easier. My first trip was with the “GOOGLE_MAPS” code that I got when looking to see how far a walk I had to meetup with some friends. It ended up being a free ride (before tip). I had gotten a Lyft coupon handed to me on the strip for $10 off my first 5 rides…so these all ended up being less than $2 (again before tip, I gave every driver a $5 tip).
I preferred Lyft over Uber mainly because the price was about the same, but a driver that had placards for both said that Lyft took a little less of a commission.
Once I used all of my Lyft rides, I got a code for my wife $5 off 10 rides from a driver (who also gets a little something every time their code is used)
Finally, I sent an Uber invite to my wife… we got a $20 credit on her account and another $20 on mine.
Hotel
Hotel #1 Circus Circus: This was the cheapest place to stay. Absolutely do not stay here if you are over 6’5” … the light fixtures in the hall are very low hanging. Expect that you will be approached constantly by time share representatives (more on that latter) and good luck not getting offered a free sample of face cream. This hotel just kind of made me feel sad. From parents ignoring their kids to gamble to generally being run down. If you are going to spend time in the heart of the strip, it is a bit of a walk
Hotel #2 Balley’s: We spent the last two nights at Balley’s. Everything was cleaner. This was more centrally located on the strip. I liked it much better than Circus. There were timeshare reps here too, but I think there was only one stand and they were nowhere near as aggressive.
Food My wife had been playing a cell phone game that earned rewards. We ended up with 3 buy-one-get-one on various buffets
Circus Circus Buffet: At par with standard buffet places (Old Country Buffet, Golden Corral, etc…). I might be a bit soured on this because there was a screaming 4 year old for most of the meal.
Aria Buffet: Best buffet by a long shot. The food was amazing (especially the desert bar with the white chocolate mousse cake pops and gelato) and by far the best selection. Don’t bother with the “all you can drink” upgrade, the drinks are so weak I think you would hit water intoxication before you would get tipsy from their rum punch.
MGM Grand buffet: This was better than Circus, but in fairness I was a bit buffet’d out by this point. (But with a BOGO it is hard to beat a good dinner for two for $45)
McDonalds: (OMG I am so lame, I went on vacation and ate at the golden arches)… This was a quick easy breakfast when running out and about for less than $5 for the two of us.
Walgreens/CVS: I keep seeing people complain about $10 bottles of water (which I never saw)… but seriously there is a Walgreens on nearly every block; prices may be slightlyhigher than at home but much cheaper than hotel
Ellis Island: Expect a bit of a wait, this is a great value (probably why it is called out in the FAQ) and everyone knows. I was with a group of 5 that ate their late night and the bill was $35 (including 2 orders of steak and eggs). The food is a bit better than most generic casual dining. (Also, be careful how much money you light on fire in the casino waiting for your table. It can quickly turn an amazing deal into a less than amazing deal)
White Castle: I’d never eaten at a White Castle before… now I have. Perhaps this is better after drinking but I am not a fan
Mexi place in Circus: Chimichanga FTW!
Vince Neil Tatuado at Circus: Nightly karaoke and good appetizers (drinks were quite weak)
Taco Bar in Balley’s: WTF $18 for Nachos!!! Oh crap that is a lot of food. Wow, this was assembled by someone that understands how to make nachos without having you end with a pile of dry chips. Ugggg too full. Huh, that’s all this cost! This was a great deal.
Firefly Tapas: Get the bacon wrapped dates (everything was good but seriously, get the bacon wrapped dates)
Herbs and Rye: Awesome little bar (the first non-watered down drinks I had)
Boarder Grill (at Mandalay Bay): The most expensive meal I had in Vegas… but also the best quality food. The Banh Mi sliders were amazing
Must See: We only made it to one show “Vegas the show” which was amazing. Fountains are the Balagio are great but I almost preferred the very small one by the Wynn (you are right by it, the music is classic Vegas rat pack, if it is hot and windy you get the coolness of mist from the fountains). Freemont at night: this is a $8-12 Lyft from the strip and if you have any promo… it costs little more than the tip to get to/from.
Timeshare: We ended up getting to Vegas about 12 hours earlier than expected, giving us an extra day. The moment (literally) I walked into the hotel I was approached by someone trying to get me to go to a 90 minute timeshare presentation. And offering us two tickets to a show, $100 in dining/gambling vouchers, and about another $100 in various incentives. My thought was for the two of us together, we don’t make $100 an hour… might as well go to augment our experience.
First of all ~90 minutes is more like 4 hours Expect a very hard sell Expect sales people that have been exceptionally well coached on how to overcome any objections Expect that if you are contemplating but can’t buy now (for whatever reason) that there is always another product to sell you
Make sure that you take your phone and look at reviews (and figure out if the product they are selling is worth its value to you).
Several of the hotels/casinos had timeshare representatives looking for customers. They do everything they can to get you to their presentations. They look like hotel employees “welcome to , are you just getting to Vegas? Let me get your welcome kit”
TL;DR Use Sprit Air is cheap… but will nickel and dime you for everything, UbeLyft, Circus Circus is cheap but sad, My Vegas Rewards can save you a little money, watch out for timeshare reps

TIFU for not knowing how big Vegas really is, and getting a heatstroke.

I read a similar story on TIFU, and I thought to share mine. This happened a few years ago. I flew into Vegas to attend one of my buddy’s chapel wedding in the middle of July. I have never been to Vegas before and I did not research. As soon as I walked out of the airport, the heat hit me hard. As I lived in the Bay Area all my life at the time, anything over 70 degree is consider hot for me. It was 88 degree according to the signs at the airport. Since I arrived late after working the whole day, I wanted to go to my hotel at Treasure Island and just avoid the heat. So I took a cab and not really pay attention to how big Vegas really was.
The next day, I was going to meet up with a few of my other buddies at the groom’s room in MGM Grand. We were going take some kind of limo together to the chapel. Not knowing where MGM Grand was from Treasure Island, I picked up a map of Vegas from the tourist desk. It was very similar to this map, and might be in fact it might be the same one. http://www.mappery.com/map-of/las-vegas-tourist-map
According to this map, the distance is 3 blocks and it would take me pass Caesars Palace, Paris, and the Bellagio, place I wanted to go by. So I packed my shirt and dress pants in a duffle bag with the thinking that I would iron in the room later. I left my room at 1pm in the middle of the heat wave, unprepared, and only wearing a t-shirt and gym shorts while carrying a duffle bag of dress clothes. As soon as I go to the entrance out of Treasure Island, I knew I was in trouble. It was 109 according to the doorman of Treasure Island.
As I made my way to Caesar Palace, it was not too bad. I wasn’t sweating much, which I now know is not a good sign. I crossed over to the Paris hotel side following the sky bridge, and I was feeling the heat. There were local vendors selling water from coolers, but I was at the paranoid and cheap stage of my life, so I refused to pay the $1 for a bottle of water that might be have refilled with tap water. I keep going thinking there was going to be a store that sells water. I didn’t even think about going in the hotels. The heat was affecting my critical thinking skills.
I did notice air condition buses that kept passing by, but I did not do any research on them and I was not in condition to. I passed Planet Hollywood/ Aladdin and I saw that there was some kind of market. But according to the map, I was only a block away from MGM Grand, so I kept walking. By the time I got to M&M gift shop 20 minutes later, and my vision was complete blur. I saw more street vendor selling water bottles from cooler, but my stubbornness caused by the heat caused me to ignore them once again. The map said I was half a block away, so I kept following the road. Somehow I managed to cross the strip and ended up at New York New York, which is right across from MGM. I think I spent another 15 minute walking around before I crossed back to MGM Grand.
I walked in MGM Grand after 1 hour 25 minutes of traveling. I was not sweating at that point and my t-shirt was dry My heart rate was crazy fast and I knew I was in trouble since I could barely stand. I found the closest gift shop in MGM and got the biggest bottle of water they sold and slammed it. My buddies found me in the casino wandering around and they had to drag me to the groom’s room to shower and drink fluids to cool me down. I still manage to go to the wedding, but I had no energy to do the after party.
TL;DR Thought Vegas was smaller than it really was and got heatstroke for it

Las Venturas: The DLC that could be

Thinking back to Rockstar saying they can incorporate multiple worlds in Online, I've been coming up with ideas for a future Las Venturas. While I know the chances are relatively low, I just want to know what other people think.
Size of the City As we know, North Yankton had its own map. Upon further examination, the map proves to be bigger than I previously thought. If it were to just feature the important parts of the city, Las Venturas isn't too far of a stretch. Especially if they can add detailed interiors inside the casinos.
Casinos: Taking some inspiration from San Andreas, I've constructed a list of casinos that could be on the strip.
New Story, New Activities Assuming we pick Ending C, than the whole crew is still alive. The new story continues the crew's antics in Vegas, following the non-stop party lifestyle, much to Michael's dismay. Michael would be the voice of reason in Venturas, and has to deal with corruption in the city's criminal underbelly as well as Trevor and Franklin's hijinks. For example, Trevor could go on a rampage at a 5-star buffet.
The new minigames would include gambling, billards, slot machines, and card games.
I'll continue updating, but that's all for now!
