This week’s Barron’s articles argues that chains like Dollar General (DG) and Dollar Tree (DLTR) are focused on value, and as a result, they are a growth story when other retailers are not, noting that when economic conditions become more difficult for consumers, the dollar stores get going. A separate article notes that SoftBank (SFTBY) considering an IPO of its Arm Holdings makes sense, and it’s an important signal for investors about the future of the chip business. Chipotle (CMG) should “crush its earnings” this week, and Barron’s notes one sell-side analyst stating investors should buy the August USD 1,150 call option to cover the July 22nd earnings report. Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) had its PT raised to a street high of USD 3800 at Goldman Sachs and Jefferies. Goldman Sachs maintains a conviction buy rating on the shares, rising the PT to the street high from USD 3,000. Analyst Heath Terry updated his estimates ahead of earnings to reflect the accelerating e-commerce growth. Revenue estimates are increased by 3% per year on average, while EBTIDA is left unchanged due to COVID expenditure and for an increase in infrastructure spending due to faster growth in retail and AWS. Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) NBCUniversal is reportedly planning broad-based layoffs to offset losses from the pandemic. eBay Inc. (EBAY) Classifieds business auction has been awarded to Norway’s Adevinta for close to USD 9bln, where eBay will keep a minority stake in the unit, according to a source. Earlier reports noted it would be USD 8bln or above. Every poker dealer in Elizabeth, IN, including myself, is being terminated as of 10/1. This leaves me with several questions. I've listed my top 5 below. Feel free to answer and ask you own.
Please let me know if you are aware of any other property that is doing this to their poker dealers. i.e. Terminating furloughed dealers as of 10/01.
Caesars/Eldorado must have an agreement signed by 12/31 to sell the Elizabeth property, as well as Evansville and Hammond. There are rumors that Churchill Downs, who has created a faux casino on Poplar Level in Louisville with their Historical Racing machines along with a still under construction 300 million dollar hotel/casino on the Downs property, is interested in purchasing the Elizabeth property. There was also a rumor that MGM is interested in all 3. This would make sense as it would be a good opportunity for them to get into the Indiana/Illinois market, especially since they already have their Indiana sports betting license. Ads are all over about free bets for joining MGM's app. Long story short, I plan on moving if there is no commitment to poker from the new owner of the Elizabeth property. I seriously doubt Churchill Downs would commit, however, do you think MGM would commit to having poker if they purchased the property?
Caesars announced yesterday that they were purchasing William Hill Sports Book. My poker room manager took a job there months ago, as he was already running the sports book at Elizabeth and I assume been offered the job back when this deal was in motion. To what degree does this represent a shift towards sports betting and away from poker for Caesars in Indiana but also in the US as a whole?
Covid has essentially grinded live poker to a halt in much of the country, except for a few rooms here and there in just a handful of states. The airline industry is terminating or furloughing tens of thousands of employees as of 10/1, the same date we are being terminated. As far I as know, none of the 60+ poker dealers/floors/duals in Elizabeth were receiving health benefits since August 1. I am not aware of any cost to the company to keep us furloughed, as opposed to terminating everyone. Is this some sort of valuation tactic for quarter 4 or the end of the year with the IRS? Does X amount of employees equal Y amount of deduction?

First Time Investing, Did I get off to a good start?
Hey guys - my friend who's pretty savvy in the stock market finally got me to start investing today using Robinhood. He gave me a few options, told me to diversify, and gave me some good starting points. He also told me that the last few days and the next week or so will probably be pretty bad for the market, so now is a good time to buy stocks. Here's what I bought today and my reasoning behind these. Let me know if I'm off to a good start. I only spent about $1200, I have more in savings that I'm willing to spend but I'm being a little conservative as I'm just starting. My goals are more long term (5-20 years) as I don't have the time or energy to trade daily. -Nikola (NKLA): Just opened, competitor to Tesla, electric truck manufacturer. One of the hotter new stocks at the moment. I think there's room for other electric vehicle stocks alongside Tesla. I plan on buying Tesla stock once I can transfer more money to my account. -Xpress Spa (XSPA): Fresh off a 1/3 split, my friend told me it's a good time to invest since they're doing COVID-19 testing. Don't know too much about these guys, but stock was cheap. -Ideanomics (IDEX): Friend recommended this to me since it was cheap. Also did some research and saw they're planning on facilitating purchases of commercial electric vehicles. They've already made deals for commercial buses in China. Was only $1.01 a share today. -Draft Kings (DKNG): Not only a casual user of the app, but sports gambling is going to explode in the next 1-5 years. -Eldorado Resorts (ERI): Purchased Caesar's Palace and will be the first casino partner of the NFL. That alone is a good sign of future success, along with the fact that there are more and more pro sports teams moving to Vegas. -Penn National Gaming (PENN): Owns 36% of Barstool Sports which has become one of the leaders in the sports blogging industry. Also owns 40+ gambling/gaming locations throughout the country. -GAN Ltd (GAN): Online Casino Gaming -Heico (HEI): Specializes in aerospace avionics, components and spare parts. Also makes medical equipment like ventilators, X-Ray systems, sterilization, and personal protective equipment. This was me trying to diversify and I did some research and it seemed like a solid buy. -II-VI (IIVI): Friend told me to look in to some optics companies as they will be strong in the future of manufacturing. I did some research and found II-VI, which makes opto-electronic components for a wide range of manufacturers. -Viavi (VIAV): Network test, assurance, and measurement company that tests equipment for networks. Don't know TOO much about this, but have seen it on multiple articles as a solid stock with the upcoming 5G revolution and ever expanding network across the world. So this next section is what's on my watchlist. Since I was being so conservative, I did multiple transactions and used all of my deposits....so I put these on my watchlist because I'm probably going to buy these next: -Tesla, for obvious reasons -Qualcomm (QCOM): Finally made peace with Apple and will be supplying chips for the iPhone for next 6 years. With 5G inevitably booming in the next few years, I saw this as a must buy. -Ericsson (ERIC): As a communications-equipment company who will be rolling out 5G technology worldwide, I saw this as a great buy. They also sell software and radio hardware and has a deal with Oppo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer. Expects 2.6 billion 5G subscriptions by 2025 and is only selling at $8.76/share. -Verizon (VZ): Just another attempt to get in on the 5G revolution. -PowerShares S&P 500 High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD): Watched some YouTube videos and I really liked what YouTuber Andre Jikh had to say about a few ETFs and Dividends. I like the sound of ETFs as they take a lot of work out of investing, provide consistent dividents, and aren't volatile. -Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI): Want for the same reasons as SPHD, but after some research see that it's a bit more growth oriented (albeit volatile?) than SPHD. Thought it be good to grab this along with SPHD as it also gives dividends. So...like I said I am a complete beginner in investing in stocks and really did all of this just by googling stuff and doing some research, watching youtube videos, etc. Please tell me if I'm an idiot about ANY OF THESE stocks and why I'm wrong, because that's why I'm posting this. U.S. stock futures were pointing to a modest decline for the Dow Jones Industrial Average at Monday’s open after President Donald Trump extended national social distancing guidelines to April 30. The Dow, which closed 4% lower Friday, did soar 12.8% for the week, logging its best weekly gain since 1938 and raising questions about whether blue chips have bottomed. However, heading into Monday’s session, the Dow was still nearly 27% off last month’s record highs. The yield on the 10-year Treasury remained below 1% early Monday. U.S. oil prices sank below $20 per barrel, near 18-year lows hit earlier this month.
On Sunday, mortgage bankers warned that Federal Reserve mortgage purchases are unbalancing the home lending market. In addition to the Fed’s extraordinary no limit fixed-income purchases, Wall Street analysts and economists said it would not be out of the question to see the central bank take for the first time ever a passive interest in the performance of the stock market.
Preparing the nation for a death toll that could exceed 100,000 from the coronavirus, Trump on Sunday walked back his previous remarks about wanting to reopen the country for business by Easter. In continuing social distancing until the end of next month, the president said, “Nothing would be worse than declaring victory before the victory has been won.” Earlier on Sunday, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said the country could see up to 200,000 deaths and millions of infections. However, he also cautioned that those numbers are based on outbreak modeling and nothing is certain.
The U.S., which has the most known coronavirus infections in the world, saw confirmed cases jump to over 143,000 with 2,513 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data. New York has about 40% of those cases and fatalities. A field hospital has been set up inside New York’s Central Park to treat coronavirus patients. Abbott Laboratories, which received FDA emergency use authorization on Friday for a test that can detect coronavirus in 5 minutes, was praised by Trump. “Abbott has stated that they will begin delivering 50,000 tests each day, starting this week,” he said. Abbott shares were soaring about 8% in the premarket.
Global coronavirus cases increased to over 730,000 with 34,685 deaths and more than 149,000 recoveries. Italy, No. 2 to the U.S. in cases with about 97,700, has the worst death toll. Italy’s 10,779 fatalities are more than three times as many as China’s 3,308 deaths. Rounding out the top three, Spain just surpassed China in infections, with over 85,000 cases and more than double China’s death toll at 6,803. China, where the pandemic started in December, has the world’s fourth most known infections, nearing 82,200 cases. Germany is No. 5 in worldwide cases at about 62,400. It has 541 deaths.
Amazon warehouse workers in Staten Island, one of the five boroughs of New York City, plan to strike on Monday to call attention to what they claim is the lack of protections for employees. Chris Smalls, a management assistant and a lead organizer of the strike, told CNBC that workers at the fulfillment center known as JFK8, have grown increasingly concerned about coming into work after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus there last week. Amazon told CNBC that the company was supporting the individual in quarantine and asked anyone who was in contact with the worker to stay home with pay for two weeks. JFK8 remains open.
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) – The company announced it has identified a lead COVID-19 vaccine candidate, and plans to begin phase 1 clinical trials by September at the latest. Its intention is to have the first batches of vaccine available for emergency use by January.
Cal-Maine Foods (CALM) – The nation’s largest egg producer reported quarterly earnings of 28 cents per share, 10 cents a share above estimates, Revenue also beat forecasts and Cal-Maine said it is not seeing any supply chain disruptions as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
Sanofi (SNY), Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN) – The drugmakers expanded a clinical trial of their rheumatoid arthritis drug Kevzara as a coronavirus treatment. The trial now includes patients outside the U.S., after beginning in America last week.
United Technologies (UTX), Raytheon (RTN) – The defense contractors have received all regulatory approvals for their all-stock merger, and expect to close the deal prior to the open on Friday. United Technologies will be renamed Raytheon Technologies and trade under the ticker “RTX.” The Carrier and Otis businesses of United Technologies will become separate publicly traded companies, trading under ticker symbols “CARR” and “OTIS,” respectively.
La-Z-Boy (LZB) – La-Z-Boy furloughed 6,800 workers, cut the pay of senior management by 50%, and of salaried workers by 25%. The furniture maker also eliminated its June dividend and stopped its share repurchase program indefinitely.
Tegna (TGNA) – Tegna said it has held talks with two of four interested parties about their takeover proposals for the regional TV station operator. Those talks have stopped, however, due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
Jefferies (JEF) – Jefferies said its Chief Financial Officer Peg Broadbent has died from the coronavirus. The investment bank named Teri Gendron, the CFO of the company’s financial services arm, as Broadbent’s successor.
Gilead Sciences (GILD) – Gilead said it would stop taking individual emergency requests for its experimental coronavirus drug due to overwhelming demand.
Eldorado Resorts (ERI) – Eldorado’s deal to buy rival casino operator Caesars Entertainment (CZR) could be in danger, according to the New York Post. The paper said regulators have delayed their review of the $17.3 billion deal due to the virus outbreak, while the casino industry takes a hard hit from ongoing closures.
Novartis (NVS) – Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan told a Swiss newspaper that its malaria drug hydroxychloroquine is the drugmaker’s biggest hope against COVID-19.
Papa John’s (PZZA) – Investor advisory firm ISS said retired basketball superstar Shaquille O’Neal should not be re-elected to the board of the pizza chain, according to a Bloomberg report. ISS said O’Neal skipped too many board meetings and that shareholders should vote against his re-election at the April 23 annual meeting.
Procter & Gamble (PG), Kimberly-Clark (KMB) – Jefferies upgraded both consumer products makers to “buy” from “hold,” noting that both are benefiting from the “pantry-loading” taking place due to the coronavirus outbreak.

He then mentions a conversation that he had with the G20 Ministers of Economy and the BRICS. Also mentions the pension reform and how it passed in contrast to France. Also of note is that part of the economic recovery plan involves unconventional methods, like allowing taxes to be paid later while moving forward government benefit payouts, as they were limited by the constitution. It's been planned to cost around three hundred and something billion, last deficit under Temer was around one hundred sixty. These plans reach seventy million Brazilians. Strangely, it's also suggested to have a mobilization of the Young Apprentices Program working with the military, as they could be paid with government spending. Tereza Cristina (Agriculture) speaks briefly about how countries are shifting to have government stocks of food post COVID. Currently Brazil is not self sufficient in wheat production, most of it is imported from neighbouring Argentina. Of course, funding is an issue, but there is two million acres set aside in the Matopiba region ready to invest in. 9% interest rates are an issue according to her. Bolsonaro asks if the Banco do Brasil (another one of Brazilian Government Banks) can help Guedes intervenes "Banco do Brasil is neither an armadillo or a snake. It's neither private or public. If you pressure Rubem (head of the bank), poor him. He's super liberal, but if you pressure him and he says "lower the rates", he goes "I can't or else the team, the private, my minoritaires, pressure me". Then if you say "put interest rates high", he goes "I can't or else the government pressures me". Banco do Brasil is a ready case to privatize. It's a ready case and we aren't doing this step. At the same time, the bank handles the payments for public companies and the military, which are more stable than private companies. Guedes makes a joke about him to "confess his dream". In Rubem's own words "In regard to privatizing, it's clear that with BNDES taking care of development and Caixa with the social needs, Banco do Brasil would be ready for a privatization program, right?" It is then highlighted that Banco do Brasil has some clear advantages, which would have to be sorted out by the public status. Judicial deposits and government payments would usually be handled by either Banco do Brasil or Caixa, now it's a public competition. The bank is no longer competitive in these sectors. "Then you only keep the bad sides of being a government company. We don't have the same ease in hiring, we don't have the same ease in firing bad employees and ... and ... and ... so forth". He follows with a few closing statements, about how he has to present all documents to the government comptrollers, and Covid perspectives. Braga Netto closes off the meeting. A few takeaways While the meeting was to debate the Pró-Brasil recovery plan, it ended up being more focused on Bolsonaro's gripes with his ministers. Bolsonaro has strengthened himself in this, as it shows he's still going strong in his position. This is both in the campaign promises and the way he has been underplaying Covid. What he says in the video is suspect, but is nothing that can be used as clearcut evidence in an impeachment trial. The Supreme Court has also subpoenaed his phone, but still has not reported on anything. Moro is likely the biggest loser in this. While there is evidence Bolsonaro changed command of the Federal Police for political reasons, there is still a degree of reasonable doubt. This meeting was not the silver bullet he expected. Within the Brazilian right wing, he's now seen as a traitor to a degree. Populism is a hell of a drug. Salles is one of the losers. Supporting the using the Covid news cycle to roll back environmental regulations is not a good look, especially when you're the first one to talk. There is now a movement to impeach him. Damares is another loser with this. Threatening to arrest governors due to human right violations was a bad move. Luckily, her ministry has little to no legal strength, and thus, is mostly an empty threat. Guedes on the other hand, has returned confidence to investors. While Brazil may have no clear plan to deal with Covid medically, it has a plan to deal with it economically. At the same time, there's the favorite word of a Brazilian investors - privatizing. The BOVESPA index has shot up from around 82000 points on Friday to 85400 by Tuesday's close. Weintraub now has a bad look. From having to deal with a racism case, he know is having to explain his threats against the Supreme Court. Outside of Bolsonaro's circle there is now pressure for him to resign or be sacked. Another loser, out from left field has been Bolsonaro's head of security, General Heleno. After reading the news of Bolsonaro's phone subpoena, he has stated there will be "severe implications for Brazil's democratic institutions" if Bolsonaro's phone is analyzed. Many have considered this to be an overt coup threat. He is now facing possible impeachment. Teich, which resigned after the meeting has gone through relatively unscathed. With a simple, stump speech on how Brazil can only leave the distancing after it has the virus under control and how testing must be expanded. Of note is mentioning how a plan to ease restrictions is being created. Given how there has been an expanded focus on creating medical capacity instead of waiting for the virus, it is likely that restrictions would be modified to a looser system, closer to that of Sweden.
First time buying stocks, did I make good first purchases?
Hey guys - my friend who's pretty savvy in the stock market finally got me to start investing today. He gave me a few options, told me to diversify, and gave me some good starting points. He also told me that the last few days and the next week or so will probably be pretty bad for the market, so now is a good time to buy stocks. Here's what I bought today and my reasoning behind these. Let me know if I'm off to a good start. I only spent about $1200, I have more in savings that I'm willing to spend but I'm being a little conservative as I'm just starting. My goals are more long term (5-20 years) as I don't have the time or energy to trade daily. -Nikola ($NKLA): Just opened, competitor to Tesla, electric truck manufacturer. One of the hotter new stocks at the moment. I think there's room for other electric vehicle stocks alongside Tesla. I plan on buying Tesla stock once I can transfer more money to my account. -Xpress Spa: Fresh off a 1/3 split, my friend told me it's a good time to invest since they're doing COVID-19 testing. Don't know too much about these guys, but stock was cheap. -Ideanomics ($IDEX): Friend recommended this to me since it was cheap. Also did some research and saw they're planning on facilitating purchases of commercial electric vehicles. They've already made deals for commercial buses in China. Was only $1.01 a share today. -Draft Kings ($DKNG): Not only a casual user of the app, but sports gambling is going to explode in the next 1-5 years. -Eldorado Resorts ($ERI): Purchased Caesar's Palace and will be the first casino partner of the NFL. That alone is a good sign of future success, along with the fact that there are more and more pro sports teams moving to Vegas. -Penn National Gaming ($PENN): Owns 36% of Barstool Sports which has become one of the leaders in the sports blogging industry. Also owns 40+ gambling/gaming locations throughout the country. -GAN Ltd ($GAN): Online Casino Gaming -Heico ($HEI): Specializes in aerospace avionics, components and spare parts. Also makes medical equipment like ventilators, X-Ray systems, sterilization, and personal protective equipment. This was me trying to diversify and I did some research and it seemed like a solid buy. -II-VI ($IIVI): Friend told me to look in to some optics companies as they will be strong in the future of manufacturing. I did some research and found II-VI, which makes opto-electronic components for a wide range of manufacturers. -Viavi ($VIAV): Network test, assurance, and measurement company that tests equipment for networks. Don't know TOO much about this, but have seen it on multiple articles as a solid stock with the upcoming 5G revolution and ever expanding network across the world. -Tesla, for obvious reasons -Qualcomm ($QCOM): Finally made peace with Apple and will be supplying chips for the iPhone for next 6 years. With 5G inevitably booming in the next few years, I saw this as a must buy. -Ericsson ($ERIC): As a communications-equipment company who will be rolling out 5G technology worldwide, I saw this as a great buy. They also sell software and radio hardware and has a deal with Oppo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer. Expects 2.6 billion 5G subscriptions by 2025 and is only selling at $8.76/share. -Verizon ($VZ): Just another attempt to get in on the 5G revolution. -PowerShares S&P 500 High Dividend Low Volatility ETF ($SPHD): Watched some YouTube videos and I really liked what YouTuber Andre Jikh had to say about a few ETFs and Dividends. I like the sound of ETFs as they take a lot of work out of investing, provide consistent dividents, and aren't volatile. -Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF ($VTI): Want for the same reasons as SPHD, but after some research see that it's a bit more growth oriented (albeit volatile?) than SPHD. Thought it be good to grab this along with SPHD as it also gives dividends. So...like I said I am a complete beginner in investing in stocks and really did all of this just by googling stuff and doing some research, watching youtube videos, etc. Please tell me if I'm an idiot about ANY OF THESE stocks and why I'm wrong, because that's why I'm posting this. I've had an idea for a Mafia IV that would be a 3-chapter game, with each one sold and released separately. They would take place in: Chapter I - The Italian island of Sicily, with the large city of Vucciria (Palermo), as well as towns of Casbach (Mazara del Vallo) and Templi (Agrigento), plus the countryside. March 1977-October 1977. Chapter II - The city of Las Platas, Aztec (Las Vegas, NV) and its metro area, as well as the Cañon Rojo (Red Rock Canyon) and Lake Draught (Lake Mead) areas, and the McHawkins Army Base. October 1977-May 1978. Chapter III - Empire Bay, plus the coast of West Guernsey (New Jersey) with the towns of Trunk (Long Branch) and Westport (Atlantic City). February 1979-September 1979. Story
Chapter I - Paolo Baldini, the 22-year-old son of Vizzini crime family member Gustavo Baldini, who used to live in Las Platas and help his friend Patrizio Sinacore run a casino there, joins the Vizzinis with the encouragement of Ennio Muraca, a family friend in the mob. Together with other young Vizzini guys, he works his way up in the gang, becoming a made man. However, his father's murder by the rival Serrata family makes his suspicions of being targeted arise; he moves to Sinacore in Platas, while having his family move to relatives on the "boot".
Chapter II - Paolo arrives in Platas, only to find that Sinacore's casino isn't doing as well as he expected, and is on track to losing its license, thanks to the rivals of the Vizzinis' LP chapter, the Lavianos. Other enemies are the White Knights, a white supremacist gang, the Highway Angels, a biker gang and the Hispanic Highgate Boys. He still helps the Vizzinis make a stand, while making Sinacore trust him (he originally deeply believed that Paolo's father betrayed him by leaving) by stopping the license cancellation, and finally helps them in a bombing of the Lavianos' Desierta Resort and a heist on the Laviano-funded Domus Aurea (stand-in for Caesar's Palace) casino. However, the heist leaves him with people in Las Platas who know what he did, many not friendly, so Baldini moves to Empire Bay with his cut.
Chapter III - Paolo learns that one of his father's killers, Ariberto Falbo, is living in Empire Bay. The man who tells him that is Elpidio Domino, a man who was nearly killed by Falbo. Together, they kill Falbo, but this only puts them in a deeper hole of murders, finally drawing the ire of the Vinci crime family on them, and to add insult to injury, they also mess with the Triads' and Bombers' business. The game ends on a cliffhanger, suggesting that Baldini gets killed by the Bombers, as well as the murder of Domino.
New features:
Multiplayer would be added, with the players working as members of the Vizzini (Platami, Las Platas) or Sabella (Empire Bay) crime families, doing jobs (both single-person and cooperative, as well as heists) for them.
It would be the first Mafia game with a first-person view, as well as 4K capabilities.
Motorcycles and planes are introduced, with the motorcycles available since the start of Chapter I, while planes are introduced by a flight school mission in Chapter II.
Players are able to own, buy and customize cars, boats, motorcycles and planes they want to have. Select (though it's a wide range) vehicles can also be equipped with bulletproof windows, run-flat tires, armor and telephones. Customization can be found on traffic vehicles (you never know if that luxury sedan doesn't also have a phone or run-flats, or you can see a gangster's chopper motorbike, or a plane with floaters).
Players can use payphones, phones in open houses or businesses or car phones to call support from their gang (manpower, gun store, vehicle delivery), call a cab before vehicle delivery or call the police on their assailants.
Players can wear different types of clothes, with weapon carry limitations depending on the clothes worn (e.g. you can only conceal small handguns and something like a garota in shorts and a tank top, but a longcoat can hide a lot more). Excess guns can be put in car trunks or gloveboxes.
Players can buy and own apartments and houses, and have a choice of interior decor and furnishings. They can also get plane hangars.

The Abridged Biography of Mr. House, Part 2 (The Last Part)
Don't mind me, just carrying on from where we left off. 11) The House Always Wins, Part 1 From this point onwards, we’re going to assume the Courier sides with House, purely because House…well, he dies in all other scenarios. House may now have electricity, an income and a plan, but he’s still weak as hell and still living at the mercy of the NCR, with no real power in the grander scheme of things…yet. The year is 2281. The Platinum Chip, formerly buried in the Ruins of Sunnyvale, is now within spitting distance of Vegas. House is aware of the Yes-Man AI, but doesn’t know how it is stored, nor who it belongs to. He is aware of Benny’s treacherous nature (hence never allowed him into the Lucky 38), but is underestimating it. And that’ll be to his detriment. Like some grand relay race, the Courier is employed to be the anchor leg that finally carries House’s one-of-a-kind USB home. The timing couldn’t be better. Knowing how little power he actually has right now, House has been refusing to attend diplomatic meetings with NCR Ambassadors, knowing it could end only in him giving concession after concession until he loses all hope of ever attaining his independence. But, of course, NCR attains what it wants in one of two ways: a) taking it by force, or b) reasoning it under their control. And House knows he’s made himself very difficult to reason with. Although he wants the NCR to win against the Legion, he cannot allow them to do so on their own terms…or else he’d be next. And he cannot make the NCR win on his terms until he has his Chip back. Perhaps he could have attended the meetings, made the concessions, became an NCR citizen, ensured his safety under NCR that way, rather than continue to risk himself for a greater vision. But House’s vision is all that motivates him to stay alive at this point. He’d rather risk death than abandon his plan for Earth. It’s why he throws his life away trying to kill you if you destroy the bunker beneath Fortification Hill. Without the means to defend what he needs for his plans, he may as well let himself die. Anyways, House screens the Courier’s approach to protect them from raiders or tech-hoarders…but doesn’t count on Benny having access to Yes-Man. Nor does he count on having missed a section of Vault 21’s tunnels, allowing Benny to sneak out undetected. This results in his Courier being shot and his Chip, already 200 years late, was further delayed. A Securitron controlled by House’s “Victor” AI, however, was ordered to inspect the crime scene once Benny departed. He found the Courier barely alive and carried him to a nearby doctor; one who had left Vault 21 many years ago… The Courier lived to carry out their task, with House monitoring and protecting them as much as possible through Victor (but also holding Victor back where he feels it is necessary, such as the gunfight at Goodsprings). Later in this quest, we can see an unusual amount of cultural sensitivity from the aloof House; he helps you capture the Platinum Chip not by sending in Securitrons (brute force), but rather by playing on the Chairmen’s sense of honour, instructing the Courier to convince Swank of Benny’s treachery. Assuming Benny doesn’t con the Courier thereafter, this plan goes off without a hitch. The Chip is returned. Why House admitted the Courier into his casino when no one else had been allowed to enter in centuries is a bit of a mystery. If you’ll allow me to speculate, it could be that House identified with the Courier, who survived terrible odds to fulfill their contract, and felt some kinship with them due to that. House’s ethics only really go as far as his contracts do, and he likely appreciates a Courier who works so hard to uphold theirs where no one else would. Or maybe House was desperate, and figured someone would break in to kill him eventually (maybe not Benny, but NCR would have the ordinance, and Legion the cunning to do so). So perhaps he felt the Courier, as the most recent arrival to the Mojave, was the most trustworthy person he could select. A long shot, to be sure, but such was his life after the War began. Anyways, House now has his Chip back. This is where the fun begins. 12) The House Always Wins, Part 2 We’ve already talked about the nature of the Fortification Bunker, so here I’ll speak of what the Mk II Upgrade means for House’s Securitrons. It means all the assets around Vegas – the assets House was likely aiming for in the first place – can now be defended by him directly. Hoover Dam, HELIOS One, REPCONN, and so forth. Vegas and the settlements around it can be protected and the Bunker ensures he has the numbers to do so. But, for now, House doesn’t use this. In order to force a clean rout from the NCR (as opposed to a bloodbath), House must catch them completely off-guard. To that end, he must continue to appear as weak as he was before acquiring the Chip, conserving his forces for the Second Battle of Hoover Dam and thereafter. Activating his whole army before then would be far too conspicuous and only serve to complicate matters. But when the iron is hot? House plans to use his improved and enlarged robot army to raze Caesar’s camp to the ground, flank and eradicate the Legion, take Hoover Dam, Outer Vegas and HELIOS, force a withdrawal from the NCR…and protect Goodsprings, due to the selfless assistance they provided his Courier. Determinantly, he may also make a move on Primm if it proves itself to be highly annexable to foreign powers The Securitrons are an army that never hungers, never tires, never sleeps and almost never dies. Armoured second only to the Brotherhood of Steel. Enduring second only to the Ghost People. Each one has the capability to engage squads, vehicles, aircraft…as House said himself, “Vegas will finally have soldiers worthy of protecting it.” 13) The House Always Wins, Part 3 We don’t have a lot to say about House and the Boomers. His ending slide with them is the only one that doesn’t explicitly say the Boomers violently kept travelers out of their home. Make of that what you will. In any case, it’s artillery – a powerful defensive/ siege asset - to combine with his robots (another powerful defensive/ siege asset). Perhaps it’d be better to speak of the Kings now. House is infamous amongst us for wiping out the Kings in 66% of the outcomes where the player personally let them live. This leaves a bad taste in our mouths and for good reason – it is by far the darkest mark on House’s character that we see all game. I cannot justify it. But I can try explain it. The Kings rose to prominence as a de-facto government and police force for Freeside after House pulled his personnel back onto the Strip. However, true to Elvis, they are rather rebellious. They care little for “The Man” and everything for “The People”. House is THE personification of “The Man”, and thus represents the Kings’ ideological opponent. Although House does care for the people in the long-term sense, he’s ice-cold and operates from a high-horse of sorts (not that he really has much choice anymore). This contrasts with the Kings, who help their people baby step by baby step, as equals. House would find the Kings to be idealistic, but backwards and ineffectual. The Kings would find House to be pragmatic, but too much of a control freak. Whilst House allows many freedoms, his core directives as an employer are non-negotiable; His directives thus feel more like ultimatums at times, which is something the Kings find abhorrent as shown in Kings’ Gambit if you get Colonel Moore to back you - They’d rather die than accept an Ultimatum. Remember that the Kings as a whole are a rainbow of different tribals who refused to work for House, but also refused to leave Vegas and thus suffered for it. They’re mostly hooligans who occasionally do good things for their community under the direction of a compassionate man. Yet, as we see with the handling of the local water pump, their morality is strained when resources become scarce, just like many other factions of note. Still, they are the Chaotic to House’s Lawful. It’s thus no surprise that fighting breaks out when House chooses to move back into Freeside after a few years. The only way they live is if they decide to take revenge against NCR troops and squatters during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, wherein House deems an occupation of Freeside to be unnecessary. Sadly, that only happens if the Courier does something truly, truly awful first. This is honestly the only regret I had during my House playthrough. 14) The House Always Wins, Part 4 Contrary to popular belief, House isn’t blind to the events on the Strip (Vulpes was a necessary part of the plan to get the Courier into the Fort Bunker for House anyways). At this stage, the Courier has proven themselves trustworthy. In addition, they’ve either proven themselves an exceptional diplomat (earned the love of a paranoid, isolationist faction armed to the teeth with rockets and artillery) or a thorough and talented killer (wiped out the paranoid, isolationist faction armed to the teeth with rockets and artillery). House would prefer the former, but isn’t too against the latter (by his own words if you do kill off the Boomers). At any rate, the Courier is given a list of leads and is told to investigate the Omertas and – if it turns out they threaten the Strip – either wipe them out, or regain their allegiance through a change in management. House admits by his own word that Vegas is only his because he worked to put himself in a position to bargain for it. He won’t let anyone – not even the supposed “elite” of his ventures – jeopardize his work. He saw Benny coming, only miscalculated how/ when it would happen. He sees the Omertas coming, and sends the Courier to check on them before anything can happen. The only thing on the Strip that slips by House without the Courier’s intervention are the White Gloves returning to cannibalism, although that may have had something to do with the fact that their highest ranking member was opposed to returning to those ways and generally punishes cannibalism with death, only reconsidering if the Courier decides to sneakily feed one of their friends to them. “Anyways, moving on.”
Mr. House, after the Courier deals with the Omertas
15) The House Always Wins, Part 5 This quest marks an interesting turning point in House’s ventures. It’s the first time House explicitly instructs the Courier to destroy another faction’s hold in the Mojave without accepting any other alternative, standing in stark contrast to the general hands-off approach he usually takes. Sure, the overall directives were still absolute before, but methods and outcomes were generally open to discussion. But not now. He only does this when he feels exceptionally strong about something. In this case, it’s the Brotherhood of Steel. And boy does he hate them. He is dismissive towards the NCR. He is derisive towards the Legion. He hates the Brotherhood of Steel. But why? House calls them terrorists. From the context of a Fallout 3 Player, that’d sound absurd. From the context of a Fallout 1 or 2 player, it’d still sound a little odd, but at least somewhat credible. From the context of someone aware of the Brotherhood War, it makes perfect sense. For those of you who don’t know, it went something like this:
Brotherhood and NCR: Hooray! We defeated the Enclave! By sharing our strengths, we can truly conquer anything!
*Just the Brotherhood Now: Hey, what are you doing? *NCR: Oh, just taking some Enclave tech to study. Gotta increase our Science production. *BoS: Good. That stuff is mine. Because we trust you so much, we’re going to assume you’re going to just hand it right over to us now. *NCR: Um, it’s not yours. Anyways, why don’t you want us have it? *BoS: Because we don’t actually trust you. And with that, the BoS declared war on the NCR. With superior weapons and armour, the BoS was initially doing rather well, but in the long run the NCR began to cream them because NCR is an actual country with its own infrastructure and logistics. BoS are all crazy-isolationist and thus struggled to replenish numbers. Despite being able to take on many NCR troops at once, the loss of each Paladin set the BoS back immensely as they’d also often lose not only the Power Armour (s)he was wearing, but also a vital splash of their gene puddle. Conversely, the loss of an NCR trooper, or even a dozen of them, had little larger impact on the nation-state as a whole. Feeling salty from their losses, the BoS did the only thing that made sense at the time. *BoS: Hey NCR, nice gold reserves. *NCR: Thanks…? *BoS:…be a shame if something happened to them. And with that, the BoS singlehandedly caused the NCR’s economy to tank by irrevocably destroying the gold backing their currency. In other words, Chomps Lewis suffers because some dudes who wear metal got triggered over who gets to keep the Enclave’s toaster. The NCR responded by angrily storming BoS bunkers wherever they could be found. The Brotherhood War still rages to this day, but has now mostly devolved to cat-and-mouse games. Why is this relevant to House? Consider how dependent he has been (and will be) on the strength of the NCR economy to fund his ventures – without customers, he has no income. No income, no means to recover some of the little resources remaining that are needed for his plans. Consider the extent to which the BoS trashed NCR’s economy. Consider now that the BoS also claims that their goal is to prevent another Nuclear Armageddon. Finally, consider that the BoS displayed total ignorance in what caused that Armageddon in the first place by utterly destroying (or fanatically hoarding) resources on a world that has already almost killed itself over a lack of resources. The BoS are not only hypocrites. They’re stupid. And that’s why House tells the Courier they should be killed for being “Ridiculous!” Their ridiculousness gets other people (and even themselves!) killed quite often. As for them being labelled as “terrorists”? If the bombing at Redding wasn’t enough, we get a delightful insight into the matter from Christine Royce. Bear in mind that she is not only a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, but also a member of the Circle of Steel. This means she represents the BoS’ sense of justice. Remember that. When we meet her, she had just emerged from an Auto-Doc that had been constantly operating on her without her consent. By listening to the operation through her collar, we hear saws buzzing and frantic breathing, pounding. The procedure of replacing her vocal cords had been happening, over and over, for two weeks. Christine’s traumatized enough by the experience that she palpitates near not only other Auto-Docs, but near any dark enclosed spaces that make funny sounds. She assumes Elijah trapped her there, and uses that belief to fuel her desire for revenge. If you convince her that Dean did it (which he did)? She forgives Dean instantly, assuming you were nice to her earlier. Why? “I've... done worse. Much worse... and for more hopeless causes, and I will again.”

Holy cow. Worse than two weeks of non-consensual surgery without anesthetics for most of it? And she’d do it to others again? And she represents the BoS’ sense of justice? Holy cow. Whether it’s fitting bomb collars to unfortunate prospectors and sending them against elite NCR troops their Paladins are too afraid to fight themselves (which happens if you find their bunker early on without Veronica) or bravely massacring clinics (determinant outcome in I Could Make You Care), the Brotherhood shows itself to be very, very dirty. And unlike many other factions like NCR, House or even Legion (none are spotless, but I personally detest the third one for Caesar’s rampant Revisionism, amongst other sins), the sketchy things BoS do does not even come with the promise of a future. Aside from the odd Radical like Elijah, they don’t advance. They steal pre-existing tech and coast off of it, with no real plans to improve. They don’t grow. They only hoard. House, as a self-made man, likely finds that disgusting. House didn’t even inherit his family business. He had to found his own company, build it up from nothing and then buy the family business out. The Brotherhood? They’re Pre-War military deserters (and their descendants) who used the materiel they stole to go ahead and steal more shit, using the massive initial tech gap between them and the average Wastelander to push people around so they can keep stealing even more shit, THEN act like saints when/if they decide to share some of what they stole with the outsiders they stole from. They treat their man-written Codex as divine scripture and use it as an excuse to not think. In the same way that Followers of the Apocalypse (who are also dedicated to preventing another Armageddon, by the way) see through the façade put up by Caesar, so does House see through the façade of the Brotherhood. He knows their history too well to buy into their rhetoric. Using his knowledge of the Brotherhood War, House recommends you defeat them by activating the self-destruct mechanism (another product of the Brotherhood’s great wisdom) installed deep within the Mojave BoS’ bunker before they try repeat their follies upon Vegas. Because this mechanism is activated deep within the bunker, it can be safely assumed that if the Courier gets out in time, everyone else could have too. But they don’t. Darwin is vindicated once again. 16) The House Always Wins, Part 6 Ironic, isn’t it? A foreign power wants your head on a plate, but here you are protecting their Head of State. House is aware of Kimball’s unpopularity – both within and without NCR territory - and knows how quickly martyrdom could change that. According to projections, Legion had an 83.75% chance in succeeding with their assassination attempt. House didn’t want them to succeed. Intending to build a positive special relationship between NCR and the future New Vegas FEZ, House sends the Courier to protect Kimball from Legion assassins (so Kimball will be blamed for the inevitable NCR retreat from the Mojave rather than Vegas). Here, he’ll show appreciation to a Courier with powerful NCR relations or utter scorn towards a Courier who alienated them already. Through dialogue, we know House is beginning to drop hints of his power by sending and controlling one of his Securitrons as far as Hoover Dam in order to prepare Ranger Grant for your arrival. We also find out that House hates having to wait and see what happens. Although he is hands-off, he prefers being able to influence events rather than watching them pan out helplessly (as he has been forced to for so long). The President’s safety now delegated, House turns his thoughts towards Hoover Dam. At this time, despite NCR Engineer Lawson’s best efforts, the Dam is not operating at full power. House will change that…just not yet. Not until it is uncontestably his. 17) Wild Card: Finishing Touches This isn’t a House quest, but it gives us an important insight into his character. “Well, some of Mr. House's projections predict a ‘moderate probability of civil instability subsequent to the NCR being driven from the Vegas region.’One of the ‘mitigating contingencies’ he planned was to enlist the Followers to provide increased medical aid throughout the region.Just seems like it might help keep things stable when we go independent. Not that I know what I'm talking about!”
Yes Man, coasting off of House’s projections and information should the Courier murder the latter.
No matter what you think of the NCR, it can’t be denied that they have helped bring relative stability to the Mojave. House isn’t oblivious to this, and is aware of the problem involved in making the NCR military withdraw. His response, according to the far-too-nice-yet-honest Yes Man? Fund the Followers and spread their humanitarian efforts across the Mojave. You’ll never hear about this if you play through House’s questline. You won’t even hear it from Yes-Man if you only betray House at the last minute. The implication there is that House successfully enlists the Followers, THE most selfless and humanitarian group in the setting, without the Courier’s help. And he doesn’t even make a PR stunt out of it. The implications of that are enormous. This was only “one” of the contingencies he planned, too. Makes you wonder what else House put in place to ensure Mojave stability after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. Anyways, it kinda explains why Arcade feels “disillusioned” with the Followers in his peaceful “Stay in Freeside” ending, since his own feelings about House are less than positive. 18) The House Always Wins, Part 7 The Second Battle of Hoover Dam is looming overhead. With General Oliver’s tunnel vision becoming ever more acute, House sees his time to shine. A human agent is sent to Eldorado Substation to reroute some power from NCR-designated locations to the Lucky 38, jumpstarting its long-dormant reactor. With the Mk. 2 OS upgrade installed, it was now safe for the reactor to operate indefinitely. And so it was done. Vegas now has all the power it could ever need, completely independent of Hoover Dam, Eldorado or even Helios One…but the power generated by those amenities will be needed for other purposes. 19) All Or Nothing “Perhaps you feel my ideals are unrealistic dreams, but I prefer to think of them as long-term goals of the highest order – goals that transcend generations.Yes, they are far too mammoth for the years of any mortal –of any of us- but we lay the foundations anyways. Nightmares may happen on their own. What we do now may be the only way someone sees good dreams realized within their lifetime.”

Centuries of preparation, waiting and recovering has now come to a head. The plan that was meant to commence before the Great War would soon continue. Whilst Legion and NCR fight over the Dam “like two dogs over a rib – perhaps of their master, long dead…”, House’s agent, escorted by a Securitron, begins the task of infiltrating the insides of Hoover Dam. Just like for the Eldorado Substation, House gave them an Override Chip (which he had made Pre-War) to allow them to reroute power. This time, it’d be a massive jolt to wake up the Dam entirely…not to mention the hundreds upon hundreds of armoured robots waiting beneath Fortification Hill. House confirms the scope of his ambitions by not allowing Hoover Dam’s generators to be destroyed – unlike Yes Man, he does not give that option, even though he really doesn’t need the Dam for Vegas. House’s dreams go beyond merely keeping his city to himself – it’s just a means to another end. Upon rerouting the power, House prints the NCR’s terms of surrender, intending his agent to pass it along to them once the Legion is dealt with. Whilst the NCR is still battling on their half of the Dam, House has set Caesar’s camp ablaze, small groups of Securitrons cutting swathes through Legion Centurions with rocket and grenade bombardments. For those of you who haven’t read those terms, it can be summarized as this:
Vegas, Eldorado, Hoover and Helios (along with other locations within that range) now fall under the Free-Economic Zone of New Vegas, a private entity owned by Mr. House as its Sole Proprietor
NCR military (grunts, rangers, 1st Recon, Military Police, etc) must GTFO the FEZ
NCR Civilians (OSI, Dam Engineers, tourists, etc) are welcome to stay
Water and power from Hoover Dam is no longer free for the NCR, but is now an export from the FEZ
House decides the price of said exports.
There’s a lot of debate over whether the initial prices set (5 caps per gallon of water, 5 caps per kw/h electricity) are fair or not. YouTuber Oxhorn made a noble but ultimately laughable attempt at trying to deduce this. By in-game standards, 5 caps for a gallon is great considering less water than that normally costs at least double those caps, if not more. If we go by the thought that 1 cap = 1 bottle of water (according to an old practice amongst the Hub’s Water Merchants IIRC), it’s less great. Either way, it doesn’t matter. A note to all those who read and (hopefully) enjoy this creative look at Siege; I had the afternoon to myself and decided to write something and this was that something. I've retconned the history of the games to make sense personally to myself--dates have been changed, but only slightly. I included current day events because I think it naturally creates tension between various team members, and I'll explore that at a later date if you determine this worthy of more. Warm regards, Hibanasan. Logan Keller drove from Sacramento to Slab Creek in the densely forested Eldorado Wilderness of Northern California. Retired now from the military and the clandestine agencies of the United States, he is free to do as he pleases, living off a lucrative severance given to him and him alone when Team Rainbow was finally shutdown by the United States government under the Obama Administration. Even here, in the silence of the wilderness with only the babble of Slab Creek, Keller can still hear the angry shouts of senators at the many closed-door sessions of the various investigative panels convened in the aftermath of Las Vegas and Nowak. Bitter memories exist even now, eight years later, despite Logan’s best efforts to counter them. Even the mere thought of a casino sent him into a manic spiral. In his nightmares, he can hear slot machines and bizarre elevator music, all the while he sees Gabriel taunting him. Over the years, he’d picked up several hobbies; carpentry, painting, writing, et cetera, but none of them had ever calmed him quite so much as fishing did. Paradoxically, he never kept what he caught; it wasn’t the end that interested him anymore, it was the means. Fishing required patience and determination, even in a body of water so heavily stocked and underfished like Slab Creek. From the spring thaw to the autumnal freeze, water bugs and insects clung to the top of the creek like a hazy fog mere inches from the trout below the surface. Fishing in the remote wilderness brought Keller to a place of solace and afforded him some peace in an otherwise chaotic world. On the drive down, Keller reflected on the current events of the world as they were relayed over the airwaves via NPR; migrants tear gassed at the US/Mexico border, Russian warships firing on Ukrainian ships in the Baltics, and a total sum of Yemenis who’d been killed by weaponized starvation at the hands of the Saudis so large it was practically a meaningless statistic. The world, Keller reflected, was a dangerous place that played cruel tricks on good people. This place, however, was a world unto itself, apart from the world around, and here he had his peace. As he passed the dam, he shut off the radio and cranked open the windows of his 95’ Ford F-150. He took the pass off the southern tip of the dam and followed a winding road several meters above the banks of the river. Slab Creek, Keller thought, reminded him of a fjord in miniature; steep slopes dropped straight into the water, no beach, no reprieve. He’d once had to throw a rope to a man whose kayak had capsized as the poor soul faced a swim of a few hundred yards in either direction. There were breaks in the slopes here and there, but they were far and few between; Keller knew of a couple, and after another ten minutes, he pulled off the road nearest one of those spots. Keller threw the gear into park, depressed the pedal for the e-brake, and turned off the engine. He grabbed his SIG and tucked it into his hip holster and stepped out of the pickup. As he cracked open the locker in the bed of the truck to retrieve his fishing gear, he took a glance up through the tree canopies to see the overcast sky; rain wasn’t in the forecast, but then again, this was California. He just hoped to get a good few hours in before the rain ruined a good afternoon of fishing for him. Trekking down the steep slope was no easy feat; Keller had to hack and slash his way through bushes and branches, watched for bugs or wild animals, and had to laboriously and strategically place his footing, lest he slip and fall, and die in the wilderness. At his secluded fishing spot, Keller swept away dead branches and fallen leaves with his boots, then dropped his backpack. He set his tackle box near the edge of the drop and rested the fishing pole nearby as he fixed himself a cup of coffee from the thermos. His cell phone, which annoyingly still had service, though barely, chirped, and Keller glanced at the screen; a restricted caller. He watched the screen as the phone continued to ring and then finally the call was missed. Logan sighed and held down the power button until the phone shut off, and then went to work setting the line. In the blinking of an eye, two hours had passed, and Keller had nabbed two trout, the second of which, put up a big fight over its being captured, and evaded Logan’s best efforts to reel it in for twenty minutes. Eventually Logan had it, brought it up to the bank, took a rough estimation of length and weight, and then unhooked it and set it free back into Slab Creek. A bolt of lightning exploded across the sky as Logan returned to his perch, and thunder followed immediately thereafter. It was akin to an explosion, and Logan looked up to the sky as the clouds broke. At first a drop and then a deluge. He pulled his cap on tightly and began to gather his things when he heard another thunder clap. He unzipped his backpack and tossed the thermos inside, and then froze; the thunder had a rhythmic repetition to it. The aural noise became clearer like a frequency first out of tune, and then attenuated to its proper fidelity; a helicopter. It sounded like a Blackhawk, and Keller stepped out to the ledge of the perch and looked east in the direction of the sound; the California National Guard sometimes ran training out in the boonies, but this helicopter sounded very low. Soon, the canyon was filled with the deafening chopping of the large helicopter, and Keller caught a glimpse of the aircraft as it banked down the canyon. A wall of spray was kicked off the surface of the river by the hurricanic gusts generated by the helicopter, and Keller raised his hand to shield his face as the helicopter passed overhead, just over the tree tops. It was headed for the dam. Keller didn’t see the staple ‘US ARMY’ livery on the tail of the helicopter and his suspicions rose; the park service flew a couple, but they weren’t black, and the fire fighting variants were white and orange, but also, they were mostly Huey’s and not Blackhawks. Curiosity overcame Keller as he clambered back up the slope to the road. He dug his car keys from his pocket and jogged across the country backroad to the Ford. In the distance, he could hear the engine of the Blackhawk spooling down. Logan let down the tailgate, plunked the tackle box down in the bed with the rod in its protective casing, and then lastly tossed the backpack in before he closed the tailgate and plugged the key into the driver’s side door to unlock the truck. The tumblers in the lock clicked one after the other and Keller placed his fingers on the handle when he heard a man clear his throat behind him. “Logan Keller?” Logan froze; the man sounded like he was off to his six. He turned his head slightly and saw the man stood at the edge of the road from where he’d just come from. Impossible, he thought; he should have noticed him, but he didn’t. “That depends on who’s asking,” Logan said. “Uncle Sam,” The man replied. Keller released the handle and now fully turned around to take in the man; he was military, there was no doubt about that in Logan’s mind. He wore Oakley patrol shades and sported a thick mustache and beard, wore a white t-shirt, and a plaid button up left unbuttoned with the sleeves rolled up over his biceps. Baggy jeans, a thick nylon belt, and Oakley combat boots. Logan bet the man had a gun on him, the same as he did. Marines, Keller thought? No, the regulations were too loose with this one. Certainly not Army, either. His arrogance left only one branch in mind; Navy. “What is a SEAL doing this far inland, I wonder?” Keller asked in his soft Texan drawl. The man uncrossed his arms. “How did you?” Logan heard him mutter under his breath. “Never mind that, I was sent to retrieve you.” “By?” “That’s between you and them,” The man said. “The dam, come, follow me.” “Why don’t we take my truck? I’ve been fishing all day, and I’m pretty body sore from the fight the trout put up,” Logan said. “Sir, I-“ “You can walk, and I’ll met you there, if that’s how you feel,” Logan said, and he turned and pulled open the door. He adjusted the rearview mirror to watch the SEAL. The man caved and walked over to the passenger door and Keller let him in. “Also, only the Navy would let their regulations out that much,” Logan said by way of letting the man know he knew he was a SEAL. “Afghanistan?” “Yes, sir,” The man said. “Spent some time in the Hindu Kush, the elders there attribute beards with wisdom and respect; you grow the hair, they grow the trust.” “Ah,” Logan said as he turned on the truck. “I was a Marine, saw some action in the Second Gulf War.” “I know, sir,” The SEAL said. Logan rested his foot on the e-brake and took in the SEAL for a moment, and then depressed and released the e-brake and put the F-150 into gear. “So, where am I going then?” “Just down near the dam, sir.” Logan realigned his rear-view mirror and brought the wheel all the way to the left to make a U-turn across the narrow country road as rain pelted off the broad windshield of the pickup. Crossing back towards the dam, the Blackhawk came into sight; whomever the pilot was, he’d squeezed that big bitch into a parking space the size of a shoe box. Keller considered himself impressed. The idle blades of the propeller drooped in four directions around the fuselage of the military helicopter, rain ran their lengths and trickled from their angled edges. Keller eyed two men stood on the damn, but they had their backs to him. “You can park it here, sir,” The SEAL said. Logan didn’t reply, and he pulled up alongside the Blackhawk and parked the Ford. As he pulled the key from the ignition, he glanced passed the Navy SEAL through the passenger window to the open bay of the Blackhawk. A woman sat in the rear rack, tablet rested across her lap. As if sensing eyes on her, she looked directly at Logan, and then slunk down into her seat, and hid her face behind the open door of the Blackhawk. Logan was suddenly on edge. “Follow me, sir,” The Navy SEAL said as he stepped out of the truck. Logan considered his options for a moment, the road across was clear, but they had a helicopter, whoever they were. Logan stewed and then pulled the handle and opened the door. He stepped into the rain and retrieved his backpack and fishing pole. “Sir, I really don’t think the-“ “This spinning reel cost $1,500, it’s coming with us,” Logan said defiantly. “Now, I’d like to speak to whomever is in charge here, and I’d like to do that right now.” “Sir, I was only sent to fetch you, you’ll be-“The SEAL said, his hands up to calm Logan. “I’ll be nothing,” Logan said as he stepped around the Navy SEAL. He looked to the girl in the helicopter. “Miss, are you in charge of all of this?” “Sir, please,” The SEAL said as he steered Logan away. “Get your hands off of me,” Logan said. He sidestepped the Navy SEAL to the right and put himself between the nose of the Blackhawk and the girl in the cabin. “Now, you either let me speak to the person in charge of this whatever this is, or I walk, right this second, do you understand me?” “Oh, I hear you,” Another voice called from behind Logan. Full of anger and contempt at what these people were doing, Logan spun and was about to yell when he was taken aback by who stood before him. “Ding?” Logan asked in confusion. The man had aged considerably since the last time the two had spoken; their not speaking had not arisen from some distaste either man felt for the other, but from their shared experiences of testifying before the Congress over a period of a year. “Hi, Logan,” Ding said. “Long time, no see.” “Ding, what the hell is going on?” “I’ll explain once we’re on the chopper,” The man replied. He signaled the back and forth was over as he stepped past Logan, squeezed his shoulder, and then clambered into the hold of the Blackhawk. From inside he heard, “Marius, wheels up in sixty seconds.” Logan simply blinked a few times as he tried to process what was happening. Just when he thought he’d understood, Eddie Price, the second man on the bridge, walked by and winked at him before he joined Ding in the hold. Logan scratched his head with his left hand, looked to the Blackhawk as the pilot went through his pre-flight list, then to his truck and then to the Navy SEAL. “Sir, this way, please,” The bearded man said as he extended his left arm in a ‘please-go-here’ motion. Logan wanted to say something, but the words escaped him, and he simply shrugged and ducked into the troop bay. Keller took a seat on the middle rack of the bench seats, right across from the woman with the tablet; she was Asian, possibly Korean, her bespectacled eyes glued to her wide tablet on her lap. She glanced up at him quickly, and then disappeared back into the illuminated screen. The Navy SEAL took the seat next to Keller, and Ding crowded in next to the Korean girl so he was off to Logan’s front left in the cramped confines of the Blackhawk. “What about my truck?” “We’ll send someone for it, it’ll be back in the garage for you with a full tank of gas for the trouble,” Ding said. He then pointed to the rack above for Logan to don a headset. In unison, nearly all the people aboard slipped a pair on. “Aren’t we missing someone?” Eddie Price asked. “Sniper-1, we’re wheels up,” Ding said. “Get onboard or you’re walking back to KBAB.” The Navy SEAL tapped Logan’s left knee to get his attention and then pointed out the troop hold beyond the Ford to the tree line. Logan squinted as he scrutinized the forested hillside. He blinked, and a man appeared before his eyes from the tree line, bullpup sniper rifle cradled in both arms. The ghillied sniper ducked into a crouch beneath the spinning blade of the Blackhawk and climbed aboard before the pilot powered the helicopter off the deck. Once they were clear of the mountain range and the pilot powered down for level flight, Ding called Logan’s name over the intercom of the Blackhawk. “Logan, I know you have many questions,” Ding said. “The government is putting together a team, and these are just a few people that they have on offer,” The former director of Team Rainbow said. “I know you’ve already spoken, but this is Craig Jensen, United States Navy.” Logan and Jensen shook hands across the hold. “Grace Nam is the one who found you,” Ding then said as he leaned to his left. “Logan Keller,” Logan said as he shook Grace’s hand. “You missed our call,” Grace said as she pushed her glasses further back up her nose. “I know, I watched as I missed it,” Logan said back. “How the hell did you find me anyway?” “We triangulated your position using the local cell towers, though out here, the coverage is sparse,” Grace said with a hint of annoyance in her tone. “We also talked to Hoyte down at Flighz,” Ding said, referring to Logan’s usual bartender. “I’m gonna have a talk with Hoyte next time I go down there,” Logan said. “I bet,” Ding said with a laugh. “Of course, I suspect you already know Eddie?” “Of course, you put me through the paces at Hereford back in the day,” Logan said as the two shook hands. “You were a lot younger back then.” “And thinner,” The Brit joked with a cheeky smile. “How times have changed,” Logan muttered to himself, though everyone on headset heard him. “Logan, you look like you haven’t aged a day,” Ding said. “Credit my ex for putting me on a dermatological regimen,” Logan said sarcastically. “It’s the soap with the beads that make all the difference.” “The soap with beads is terrible for the environment,” The ghillied sniper said in a Russian accent. “And you are?” Logan asked as he pivoted in his seat. “Glazkov, Timur Glazkov, I am pleased to meet you, Logan,” The sniper said as he extended a gloved hand for Keller to shake. “I wanted to say that you are a credit to anglers around the world, I watched you all day, but I think you fight the fish a little too much; let them do the fighting, there’s no sense to tire yourself; if you want to catch the big ones, let fly rest on surface. The big fat fish don’t chase a lure that moves too much.” “Thanks, I guess,” Logan said as his brain retraced his steps; how had this man watched him for so long without his noticing? “Glaz is on loan from the Russian Federation,” Ding said by way of explaining the Russian’s presence. “In fact, mostly everyone here is on loan from somewhere else.” “What do you mean by that?” Logan asked suspiciously. “Are we getting the band back together?” Ding and Eddie laughed, and Grace cracked a smile on her otherwise indifferent resting face. “Yes, and no,” Ding said. “The directive came from Washington, Six is being brought out of mothball.” “This came from the president?” Logan asked skeptically. “Oi, lad, I hope not,” Eddie laughed at the president’s expense. “Hey, watch it, didn’t you guys just get kicked out of Club Europe?” Jensen cut in. “Actually, we democratically elected to toss our oars overboard so that we might finally have things our way,” Eddie corrected himself sarcastically, and got a chuckle out of both Craig and Timur. “This came from DHS and the Joint Chiefs; Six is blacker than black. NATO, the Department of the Interior, and the Office of Special Projects via the Pentagon,” Ding said with a semblance of pride in his tone. “Team Rainbow was blacker than black before Gabe,” Logan reminded the man ominously. “We’ve learned from our mistakes, Logan,” Ding said solemnly. “Vegas blew the lid clean off the top of Team Rainbow, Six is just the natural progression of evolution.” “And should Six be compromised?” “Let’s cross that bridge if and when we come to it,” Ding said. In a little under twenty minutes, the Blackhawk had crossed over Kilaga Springs and come in for a landing at Beale Air Force Base. The pilot brought the Blackhawk to a standstill outside a reserved hangar, and as the doors parted, they revealed a LearJet nestled within. In a few moments, a crew had wheeled the aircraft into the overcast and drizzle and dropped the stairs for the passengers of the Blackhawk. Logan was the second man off the helicopter and Ding Chavez joined him. “Once you’re aboard, Six is going to want to speak to you privately about what she expects from the new outfit,” Ding said as he crossed his arms. The two of them watched as Grace Nam jogged over to the jet and disappeared inside, and then watched as Jensen and Glazkov busted out cigarettes to have a smoke before the ride out. “You see, the problem with Team Rainbow was that there was no accountability,” Ding suddenly said. Logan was caught off guard. “NATO mandated the creation of the old team after a wave of free actors rose up in the aftermath of the Soviet Union’s collapse, and we funded it through the Department of the Interior. If what happened in Vegas had happened in some shithole somewhere else, we’d all still have our old titles, but it didn’t. When the senate finally took a look at their own books, they got angry and they felt tricked—that is the reason Team Rainbow was shuttered. Logan, Six needs accountability for their actions and their inactions, understand?” “Of course,” Logan said. “But I think all of this works under the assumption that I’m going to accept their offer.” “Oh, I have a feeling you will,” Ding said as he slapped his friend on the back. At present the pilot came around from the helicopter, helmet held under one arm. “Oh, also, Logan, there wasn’t time for a proper introduction, this is your pilot, Marius Streicher.” “Herr Logan,” Marius said, overexaggerating his Germanness. “I read the technical manual you put out years back.” “I’m honored, I suppose,” Logan said. “Right, yes, well, I should be getting aboard,” Marius said, and he ducked away to board the plane. “As should you, Logan, good luck,” Ding said with a wide smile. “Are you not coming, too?” Logan asked as he stopped in his tracks, fishing rod in one hand, backpack slung off his left shoulder. “It would appear that Six misplaced my invitation,” Ding said as he opened his palms and shrugged. “Sir, I wouldn’t’ve come this far if I thought you wouldn’t be there,” Logan said as he rolled his shoulder to keep his backpack from sliding down his arm. Rain dripped down the back of his neck. Ding smiled and nodded. “I know, Logan,” He said. “You’ll still have Eddie, though.” “Bishop?” “Don’t you think they asked her to be here, too?” Ding asked with a smirk. “I only accepted because we have a history and I think you’re the right man for the job.” “Sir, it isn’t Team Rainbow without you,” Logan said. “That’s just it,” Ding said with a raw and bittersweet grin. “It isn’t Team Rainbow anymore. It’s Six.”

The Pittsburgh crime family is headed up by Thomas Ciancutti today who may have some command over the Kansas City faction. Gregorio Conti founded the Pittsburgh crime family and the Torlonia family are partly a continuation of the Conti di Segni family. Pope Innocent III or Lotario dei Conti di Segni authorized the Roman Catholic Franciscan Order and it was the Franciscan Priest Garcia de San Francisco that founded Juarez, Mexico and established the first European settlement there which is where the Juarez Cartel originated from and operates from today. Junipero Serra was also a Franciscan priest who helped establish settlements in Tijuana where the Tijuana Cartel operates from. The House of Torlonia launder their criminal profits from their American crime families and Mexican drug cartels in Las Vegas casinos. The word casino is an Italian term derived from the noble families running gambling events out of their casas or houses. The Torlonia family are owners of the Franciscan Order and Juarez is their territory since their Franciscans founded its first European settlement. I believe Caesars’ Palace hotel and casino in Vegas is named in honor of the Sforza-Cesarini family.
