In recognition of this milestone, I want to lay out how we got here, what my intentions are, and discuss what you would like to see from this subreddit moving forward. skip this part if you only care about gamblingstocks: It starts with a brief background on me . I got inspired by the idea to invest in weedstocks when I was younger because I thought Trudeau would legalize it when he ran for Prime Minister. I knew nothing about stocks or the market or $ for that matter but I did and still have a big nerd interest in politics. I knew that the BC Young Liberals had already put forward in their platform the idea to legalize weed. I also knew that for the first time ever Liberals went from being 1 or 2 party in power to being relegated to the 3rd Party Position behind Michael Ignatieff. (Hard for ppl without reference, this was the most embarassing thing to happen to the Liberal's in Canada's history. Furthermore, the perfect storm was created because the Conservatives had already been in power for 10 years under Stephen Harper and no one has ever won more than 3 elections in a row) Even better, a smokeshow young Justin Trudeau was the new leader of the Liberals and rode the last name of the most famous Prime Minister in history before him (his father Pierre Trudeau). The final thing that made me sure, the obvious fact that Colorado legalized and the US Federal government didn't shut that shit down immediately - that was the writing on the wall. So anyways, I somehow googled and found some random medical marijuana stocks online that had just started trading. With no experience, I walked into a bank with 3k cash and asked to buy Tweed (what CGC was first) they told me that it wasn't a safe investment and I was young. I left and opened up an online account that week. My second investment in Aurora dropped 50% in 1 week and stayed that way for 5 months. I thought I was the biggest moron in the world. 2 Years later, and I was sitting on an insane growth. I remember joining the fucking tweed subreddit and the CGC sub. I remember lurking /weedstocks when it was less than 500 subscribers... I remember thinking that was a fucking genius idea. That sub has close to 200,000 subscribers at present point in time and I bought CGC when its market cap was 200 million Canadian. Now, this is hard for me to admit, but I was young, had no exit plan, got greedy, had no idea what I was trying to do and thought I was a trader savant, God's gift to the world, and I ultimately lost a substantial amount of my money. Mind you, it was all profit to begin with but that didn't make it hurt less and it would have significantly changed my life but its important to learn from our past successes and our past mistakes. It honestly was a hard thing to move on from specifically because I believe it was such a unique phenomenon. Anyways I have continued to watch ppl try to replicate something close to what we saw with the "weedstocks" phenomenon (which is still happening mind you years later) and I had truly thought that it was a once in a lifetime play. It is of course a separate play but the similarities between weedstocks and gamblingstocks is obvious. In fact, it is my opinion that ppl are so hungry for another weedstocks play that they are turning to things like GME and DOGE coin (something completely unrelated) and /shroomstocks (very much so related). Shroomstocks is fast approaching 30,000 subscribers for investors of magic mushrooms stocks in the hopes that drug policy/laws will change to their benefit. With all do respect, as I hope the best for those investors, is this not the clearly better play? we have an 1) actual clear path to legalization 2) support across political parties 3) Real, established companies with actual business people 4) A pandemic which creates the perfect pressure for change! The gambling companies don't have to build warehouses to grow the product, spend money on heating and electricity, pesticides, storage, shipping and receiving? What about the 'product' in this industry? What is the comparative upkeep in that? So you can imagine how I felt when I stumbled across $SCR and Bill C-13 earlier this week. I have had this feeling exactly twice in my life before, with weedstocks and with crypto in 2017. I might be going crazy but I am seeing the exact same comments as plays as early weed. Ppl questioning if it will continue to go up after such a large run are missing the point. The Score was one of the most active traded stocks on the entire TSE yesterday. It was the same for weedstocks back in the day, it is not in the Canada's best interest to stop a homegrown company from doing well and becoming an international player. Trudeau and Company have all the reasons in the world for wanting to see this through. Why the fuck would you smack down a domestic company during a pandemic? Ultimately it is a gamble which is why there is such huge potential for us, but I would trust literally the same man who has already proven he can do something so different like legalize weed (because it may seem like long ago but it really was a debate in the recent past). And it really is his show at this point, because unless he does something really bad the other 2 have no chance in hell of beating him in an election any time soon. So with all that said, and with my previous history, I immediately checked reddit to see if I could find a community of likeminded ppl who were early on in this area. I have never done it but I thought there was a need to create a group and coalesce around a catchy name, so i decided on /gamblingstocks. the same day that I started to begin to create and edit the subreddit, I noticed something strange. Ppl were immediately beginning to join and subscribe to the sub and we hadn't even started. Ppl of course already had the same idea I had, some turned out had it months ago! That motivated me to put just a bit of effort into the layout, and I tried to promote the sub to other areas of reddit with varying success. I continued to try and promote/shill this sub instead of allow for growth organically because of 2 ideas: 1)how would anyone even know we exist and find this place to start and 2)While it will happen regardless, the premise is that this subreddit could serve as a catalyst point for the upcoming gamblingstock wave in the current market we now find ourselves. In other words, this ain't your daddy's stockmarket no more. Social media infects everything, and I believe that the pace will only continue to increase in the immediate future. Whether its picking US Presidents and World Leaders or manipulating the stock market (See GME) the era of social media investing has arrived. Our new gamblingstocks industry coupled with the new realities of social media are why I made this group. Fundamentals don't matter any more, nothing matters anymore. Values are detached from reality, look at housing prices in certain spots around the world. I was told Tesla is a joke and would never amount to anything because of something called finding value with P/E ratio? /s what a joke. Shouldn't have listened to that age old wisdom, if you have been living under a rock Tesla is now the most valuable car company in the world. Elon added Billions of Dollars in value to an internet coin named after a dog just by sending a joke tweet. (doge coin) We live in a world where if Elon Musk tweets $SCR the price will go to $50 in 1 hour. Heck it doesn't even have to be Elon at this point. That is the reality that we face today. And with that new reality, comes new problems and opportunities. I hope to ride those opportunities with every one of you in the coming year. I fully expect to see stock market only social media stars and celebrities. The lines are quickly becoming blurred. Its not Warren Buffet anymore, its kids dancing stock tips to their follower on Tik Tok videos. And the best part. We are not shilling something fake or bullshit! We have a PROVEN product as old as time itself with a tested, real market. We have actual legalization change and public opinion change and the conversations on the matter are frankly already over in the public discourse. So with all of that together I truly believe that at some point what we have already found out will hit "the singularity" and then it will go viral. I don't know when that will happen. We don't even need it to happen. But I believe it will. So I will use the power of the internet to see if I can make this come to fruition faster, to see if I am completely full of shit, and to bring regular ppl together to see if we can make some $$$ in the interim. Colorado Springs, CO. So my mother got into a relationship with a guy and after a couple of years they decided to get a home together. His credit was terrible and hers was almost perfect so she is the main borrower and he is the co borrower. After they started living together, he began getting violent and hitting her. She would call me all the time and send me videos of him getting drunk and going crazy etc. I was living on my own at the time and she was basically begging me to move in here with her (there was an extra room) because she was scared. I moved in this house and witnessed him getting drunk and violent again. I called the police and he ran from them for 5 days and then turned himself in. He was charged with lots of different things and one of which being that he cannot come near my mother nor the house for at least 2 years. So my mom and I decided to just take over the mortgage and eventually get his name off of it by buying him out for his down payment. She has two horses and the property accommodates them and its nearly impossible right now to find rentals that have land for horses. Between my mom and I we can easily take care of the mortgage and there's even a garage apartment that we plan on finishing and renting out for even extra income. So she called the bank that the mortgage company sold the loan to and finds out he took 2 hardship forbearances this year. There was no reason he took the hardships out other than he knew things were coming to and end soon between them and the house and was trying to screw her over as well. He made like 80k a year and the mortgage payments are like 1.9k a month. He never discussed the hardships with her and neither did the bank. So we find out the payments are 15k+ behind. The bank that owns the loan now is Royal Pacific Funding they are not American and every time we call them its a completely different story( and they refuse to let you speak to a manger or higher up). One guy said that the debt will be rolled to the back of the mortgage and it will be fine. Another lady told us that we have to start paying the debt back now and it will be a gamble if that money will be wasted and the home will be foreclosed anyway. And another women sent us a package of paperwork we needed to fill out to have a possible contract reconsideration. Since I'm not on the loan they refuse to talk to me. I used to work in the mortgage industry as an assistant loan officer so I could get to the bottom of this much easier than my mom could but I can't. So my question is 1: is it legal for the bank to lie to us several times about what will happen to the house? 2: Is there any legal route that we can take on him for getting the house in 15k+ in debt with hardship forbearances and not telling her about it? He would hide mail that came from the bank from her for months and months even though it had both their names on it. Its just a depressing situation and I'm just trying to help my mom save this house and her animals. Thanks in advance and let me know if I could clarify anything better.
I just don't know what to do anymore, and I feel like I'm a terrible son. I just need to fucking get this off of my chest.
I'm not one to really discuss what I am feeling, or to share any of my story because my personal life now is honestly...pretty darned okay. But I can't do this anymore (not in a suicidal way, just to clarify) I am at my wits end. A few bits of background information: I live about a thousand miles away from my parents. I had a very rocky time growing up, mostly due to poor financial decisions made by my parents/mother. Life was always uncertain: you never knew if someone was coming to repossess a car, or evict us - you just knew they were coming. My mother, and I have always had a tense relationship - I feel she's always been somewhat resentful towards me, and has been often emotionally manipulative to the point where it took me moving many steps away & completely doing a hard reset on my life to gain ANY semblance of mental clarity & self worth. I presently work in a low level, non-clinical position in the oncology field. I will refer to my Father as my Father, though in actuality he's my Step-Father. I knew him my whole life, and never knew my real father. My wife and I have financially assisted my parents, as well as been ripped off by them for several hundred dollars (see below). -Right before my father was diagnosed with his original diagnosis in 2007, my mother stole from her former employer, for a LOT of money. She used it for unnecessary items, and had a SERIOUS gambling problem which is what inspired her. To further complicate the matter on an ethical level, her employer was the local government & she was a city clerk. -We've lent money we knew we would never get back. -I attempted to buy my fathers classic 69 Chevy truck, and my wife and I paid several hundred dollars, only for them to sell it from under us & never mention the money we'd paid. -For my parents 30th anniversary we visited them. This was the last anniversary my father was alive for. While there, I was photographing my parents holding hands when I discovered my mothers ring wasn't a ring, but rather a washer & key ring. She'd pawned them. We paid to get them out of hock. -For the last family reunion on my fathers side we all met in Colorado (not a State where either my parents, or I presently live - it's where we're from/my fathers family lives there). We offered to pay for their airfare. Instead, I was told not to worry about it. Turns out my mother had taken out a predatory title loan on her 20+ year old vehicle to drive it thousands of miles round trip. My position in life now is a complete 180 - I am happily married to my best friend, we're coming up on our 3rd anniversary, and have been together for 8 years. In December, my Father passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was my hero, my favorite person outside of my wife. I was fortunate, in his final years, to be able to visit him a few times a year. The final time I saw him alive... It was 5am in the morning, and he was laying in a hospital bed tearing up. He was delirious from likely early stages of dementia (he was in his 80s), renal failure, aided by poor sleep, progression of metastatic disease & copious amounts of narcotics. He'd been in remission for quite some time. However, he did have other health issues that landed him for a months long stay at a very shitty assisted living facility. During this time they neglected to give him his cancer meds. Almost a month to the day of him leaving the disease had not only come back, but spread everywhere. He declined chemotherapy. I think he was just tired, hurting and defeated. While he was in the hospital when I last saw him I happened across his medical records, which is how I discovered the discontinued his medications. It was an emotional time, but I was quite upset. I was also quite vocal about this when discussing it with the assisted living facility in question. My father was set to be discharged from the hospital the same day we left. Our trip had already been extended, as I was on FMLA at this point. My mother is in poor health herself, and spent the majority of the last year of my fathers life being his sole care giver, simply because she declined outside assistance in getting my father set up with an in home hospice nurse, which eventually happened. Prior to that authorization for hospice, my fathers only option was to be released back to the assisted living facility, as where my parents live have extremely limited options. They wound up denying him because of my reaction to their ineptitude. My wife works in administration for assisted living facilities in our State, and had tried for years to intervene. She attempted to explain that the facility in question wasn't capable of handling patients with his health concerns. After my father passed, my mother had him cremated. His memorial/funeral/"celebration of life" was held about a month afterwards as most of his family, myself included, live further away. I was asked to do his eulogy. The day before his funeral my wife, and I, were helping gather decor of his for the services. It was a long day, extremely emotional - we'd been in the same room as all of his belonging, and his ashes. We all were emotionally drained. Unfortunately, my mother and I got into a massive fight. It wasn't simply one persons instigation, even during the fight I could compartmentalize that, which was kinda strange because it was such an emotional, screaming & cursing affair. I think my mother and I needed the catharticism, if I am being completely candid. As I mentioned, I was completely aware that the fight wasn't about my mother and I, despite our somewhat tense past. I walked off, crying. Just ugly, snot down my face, gagging crying. I got really, really far away when I felt my phone buzzing in my pocket. Oh yeah. My wife. She just kinda watched this whole thing explode. Her family dynamic is completely the opposite of how mine was growing up, and it always blows her mind. We experienced polar opposite experiences in the trenches of growing up. I answer the phone, still highly emotional. It's here that my wife tells me to stay wherever I am, and she will find me, and that we're going to the hotel & she'll explain later. Our original plan was to pack up our vehicles & take the decorations to the church, and set up, which is what we were in the process of doing when fight began. Eventually she finds me on the side of the road about 3 miles away. I get in the vehicle, shaking, draining my weed vape pen dry. She begins to tell me that after I left, my mother said, "he always preferred his father over me, he hates me, always has. It's only a matter of time until he drives you away, watch" Which not uncommon for her to say. She then dropped the bombshell on my wife. My wife is a fucking saint. My wife is a good fucking person. I might be dead inside, but she's filled to brim with optimism. It's so pure it's palpable. She is EVERYTHING I aspire to be as a better human being. There's just not a kinder human being on the planet, in this fucking time line than her. She;s as honest, genuine, good humored, loving, gracious & giving as anyone could ever be. I do not deserve her, and cherish her so much. Plus, dat booty thicc tho. My mother tells her after I leave that she blames my wife and I for my father dying, citing the Assisted Living facility that denied him once he was discharged from the hospital the final time as the reason for his death. Not the metastatic disease. She goes on to tell my wife that the Assisted Living Facility had told my mother that I had threatened them with legal action because I requested his full medical records. THIS WAS NOT TRUE. I don't know how. I don't know how, maybe it was the vape pen. I got it out of me, the instant rage. We went to the church, and set up for my fathers service. The next day I do the eulogy. After the service, discussing with a lot of people, it turns out that my mother had told a lot of people that we'd threatened to sue, and we we're ultimately responsible. As I was correcting this with people, the common response I got was, "Wait, why AREN'T you suing?" We came home. I took some time off of work. The pandemic happened, and I was able to take furlough and still have the ability to occasionally work/unemployment. I realize I was extremely fortunate; and drawing the parallel of at one point in my life, almost ten years ago, I was homeless for a spell. But honestly...I've just been either numb, anxious, or a combination of the both somehow ever since. I wound up having an unexpected (orthopedic) surgery during the beginning of the pandemic, having somehow achieved the life hack of a serious structurally significant knee injury despite no contact/sitting at the time it happened. It was the first time I was forced to compartmentalize everything. I cried a lot for no reason, out of nowhere, months later. I'm sure the pain killers had a lot to do with that. I hated it. I hated everything & outside of my wife, dog, cat and home. When my dad died, I felt relief because the nightmare was over. And it was. It was just a new one waiting. My father was the buffer for my mother, and I. His charisma really was pacifying. With him gone, my only shred of salvation, as thin as it may be, had dissipated to the ether forever. My mother is extremely negative/pessimistic. It's toxic, and I struggle with the effects of being raised with that world purview, but goddammit I am fucking trying to grow. I realize I've been very hard on my mother, and I apologize for that. I understand that this is coming from my perspective, but I am attempting to be as objective as possible. Truthfully, there's a lot of good things about her, and it's unfair of me not to acknowledge that as well. I've tried my hardest to build a better relationship with my mother. I do feel like I primarily am the one attempting. She's my only blood relative I have ever had, and once she's gone I will truly be a singular entity of my bloodline which is just WILD to really think about. I feel like a White Rhino. Every time I call my mother I hear more, and more about her struggles with finances. In fact, tomorrow, she stands a good chance of being evicted from her home. Her rent is absurdly low, but her landlord has been renovating his sites & will likely want to raise the price which she simply cannot afford. If you haven't gathered by now, she's quite shit with money. I just last week sent her $500 dollars that she DESPERATELY needed, as the same vehicle mentioned above needed critical work & she cannot afford a new vehicle either, especially as she's still chipping away at the title loan. I feel terrible that I don't send more money. I often wonder if I need to get a 2nd, and 3rd job to support her. The truth is my job is extremely mentally taxing, and I work LONGGG hours, I just don't know that I physically, or mentally could do it. The truth is that my wife & I are responsible with our money, live well within our means. I don't know how responsible I should feel. I absolutely do not think it would be healthy for either my marriage, or relationship with my mother to have her live with us. I'm honestly at my wits end. I don't know what to fucking do. I feel like a failure, and that I am terrible son for not giving every spare penny I have but at the same time... Part of my issues are that she knew I was homeless, and never offered to help. And, because I learned from poor influences, I myself dug a decent little tunnel of debt. However, I also worked very, very, extremely hard to raise my credit by over 100 points in about a year and a half, 2 years (675 - who wants to lease me a pre-owned Subaru, baby!). My mentality has changed a lot. I'm far more introspective, and I don't take negativity well. I believe in hard work, and perseverance, and accountability are among the best ways to improve your situation. No, I am NOT a Republican, I am very left leaning, so don't read anything more into that. I just believe that accountability, ownership of your situation, and dedication, patience are principles I admire. These are not qualities I see in my mother, and for me...that's very triggering. I apologize for the novella. I realize that War & Peace was more concise. I've had this bottled in since January, and after hearing my mother's present housing woes I can't...even think about what the solution could be. If you made it here...thanks. Liars never win. Liars with good lawyers however are a different story. Working for any sort of law firm, you realize that they have a knack for getting their clients out of messy situations. To be fair I’m no different when it comes to a paycheck. I work for a firm that handles cases of a wide variety from civil suits to high profile criminal cases. Our doors stay open a lot of times because of the high dollar clients, the ones that run off to Vegas for one night stands and then call us to get them bailed out. It’s a system that for the last six months, Franklin Weller abused rather frequently. I didn’t really expect this time to be any different. It started out the same. I got a call from Wayne (that’s my boss) who told me that Frank was in a jam and needed our services. When I heard casino I knew it was his gambling addiction but that has never really been my hang up about him. My issue is that for the life of him, the guy has never been able to tell the truth. Harry says that he’s what you call a pathological liar. He has lied so much that he can’t help but to compulsively continue to tell lie after lie. Eventually people like this lie so often they have a hard time keeping the truth straight at all. It’s sad really. In Frank’s case though, it had become something of a nuisance. I knew that when I found him he would be like the typical kid with their hand caught in the cookie jar spinning a tale so strange that only mother would believe. That’s what I expected when I arrived at the hotel where Frank was staying. A typical night of hard casino slots making him be blacklisted by management or perhaps a girl that he flirted with wanting to get back at him. But instead, when I walked into Frank’s penthouse suite, I found myself staring at a dead body. It was a younger woman, probably mid twenties; blonde with freckles and wearing a typical flapper uniform. The injuries told me that it was blunt force trauma that had caused the fatal blow, likely a crime of passion and opportunity. From across the room the lights flickered on and I saw Frank, he was holding a half drunk bottle of whiskey and staring at the girl’s body too with bloodshot eyes. Like he had been staring at her for probably hours. “Frank… what is going on here?” “Leo meant Julie, Julie; this is Leo,” he said with a hiccup and a slur as he stumbled over to me. “I bet you thought I wasn’t gonna live up to my word huh? Told you I would find you a hunny after what… happened with Diana,” he said leaning against me, his breath a mix of vomit and old cigarettes. “Jesus, how much have you had?” I said pushing him away and then moving gingerly around the dead body. “Since I found her? Probably 3 bottles. My liver is shot,” he muttered. “Have you contacted the police?” “No. Nobody but you. I know you guys can get me out of this mess,” Frank slurred. Now of course red flags were popping up in my head. Especially given Frank’s track record. I knew he could be a bonafide idiot with no help. But murder? I’m usually a good read of character and it just didn’t seem like something he would be capable of. “Well I’m sorry but I’ve got to call it in, get the place swept for prints,” I said as I pulled out my cell. “Leo please! If you do that I’m a dead man!” he stammered. Now he had my attention. “Who is she exactly?” “I don’t know her. Didn’t meet her til tonight,” he slurred. “Met her where?” “What’re… what are you gonna do?” “I assume you called Wayne to fix this mess, right? So I’ll fix it. And you’ll stay here. It will probably take less than an hour if you give me the specifics and then we can get this cleared up and the police can start their homicide,” I decided. It felt very wrong to discuss this so casually, to go against the rules based upon nothing other than my gut. I didn’t want to be wrong. Franklin hesitated for a moment and then gave me the casino name before saying, “I hope you understand why I called. I can’t go to prison! I can’t!” I ignored him and left the penthouse to make a few phone calls. First one was to Robert Blackwell, my firm partner. It went to voicemail. I tried again and got his girlfriend. “Who is this?” she asked. I clenched the phone a bit and remembered that Rob had said he was going to take a vacation. “Yeah sorry to bother. Is Robert around?” “Leo hey. Sorry about that. I thought we agreed no phone calls this week?” “Its kind of an emergency, can you do me a favor and run a social media check on someone?” I asked. I snapped a picture of the girls face one of the few places that wasn’t hurt and then added, “I’m about to send you a pic. It’s case sensitive so don’t let your fling see it.” A few seconds passed as I impatiently waited for him to receive it. “Leo… what’s this about…” “I don’t know yet but it’s Weller. He’s in some kind of trouble. And I figure with his niche for truth telling it would be easier for me to pick up the pieces this way,” I said. “Wayne’s got you wrapped around his finger you know that? Listen, you don’t owe the guy anything. I would make him handle Weller and maybe you should consider calling Josh. I hear they always could use a few more public defenders at his office,” Rob chuckled. “Can you run the social media or not? Kinda riding the clock here,” I said, ignoring his banter. “Sure. Give me an hour,” he muttered. “You’ve got thirty minutes.” I caught a cab to the casino. It wasn’t anything special. Typical hotspot for desperate people just like Frank. I didn’t want to raise any red flags about this girl being missing so I just casually scoped out the place to try and get a read on which employees I could likely talk to. It’s amazing to me how watching people can reveal so much about their character. I saw the newbies, like valets and waitresses who were desperately going above and beyond to get noticed by management for a promotion. Kids that were getting sucked into this business at an early age should be a crime. But I wasn’t one to judge a career path. My mother wanted me to join the clergy. Finally Rob got back with me. “Julie Trascell. She’s some sort of security advisor. Works at a private corporation in Colorado. Two kids, on and off with the ex. But fairly normal life. Looks like she likes to hunt and fish and crochet,” he told me. “The security firm could be interesting. What did you find out about that?” I asked as I grabbed a lemonade. “No website. Seems pretty small time. What’s this have to do with Weller?” Robert muttered. “Not sure yet.” “Hey…. Have you called it in?” I bit my lip and hung up the phone. I didn’t want him involved if it turned out that Frank was playing me. I wrote down the name of the security firm and surveyed the crowd for a good five minutes. That was when I spotted a younger girl, probably just graduated high school. Working as a bouncer with that firm on her uniform. Not a job you would get normally unless you had connections. I strolled over to her and started up a casual conversation. “Hey there sorry to bother you… Bethany. Wow that’s a great name. Hey I’m from out of town could you recommend a good cheap place for a haircut?” I ruffled my hair and did my best to give the appearance of being friendly and charming and a typical bumbling tourist. She was new and giddy, so I was going for the chance that she would be eager to please a customer. Eventually I convinced her to take her break with me. “So what brought you here?” I said once I was sure I could steer the conversation toward something more relevant. “Job. I’m under contract for another six months,” she said as she got a club sandwich. “*That must be hard. Living here alone with no one to support you,” I said. “It’s not so bad. The company pays for my living expenses and what not, my boss is great like that,” she chuckled as she offered me some and added, “What about you? What do you do for work?” “Nothing exciting. In fact I’m in the market for new opportunities. Your boss sounds pretty good though. Think I could get some contact info?” She nodded and wrote it down before pausing and saying, “Oh wait sorry. That isn’t right.” She scrawled out the name before I could catch it. “Something wrong?” “It’s nothing. I just remembered that my manager just got switched. The old one wasn’t doing a good job. Getting too cozy with clients,” she admitted. “Ah I get ya. Been there. It can be hard to draw a line between business and pleasure. So what does she do now? The old boss?” “I don’t know honestly. I was just thinking of calling her before we stumbled into one another,” Bethany admitted. She pulled out her phone to go ahead and make that call and as it continued to go to voicemail my hunch was confirmed. She somehow was connected to the deceased. “So not to pry but… you said that you haven’t heard from her? Is everything okay?” Bethany did suddenly look concerned. I had managed to earn her trust enough I was sure she would spill the beans. But then she clamped up and I played the only card I had let. “I can probably help her if she is in trouble. I know a good lawyer and have friends on the police force. Not here, but I could make a few calls,” I suggested. “I’m not sure if anything is wrong. It’s just… there was this guy that kept bothering her. I just… what if he did something to her? He made threats,” Bethany admitted. “Whoa. Seriously?” I said as all of the sudden another alarm bell went off in my head. “You know you should get a restraining order filed. If he’s that dangerous,” I suggested. “That’s rich. A man like Frank Weller could easily get something like that thrown out with his legal team. Guy is untouchable,” Bethany remarked. I did my best not to flinch. “This guy… Weller. He's the one who made the threats? What exactly did he say?” “The usual. I think she owed him money. Or something. He wanted her head. Always came in telling her she was better off dead and she would be sorry,” Bethany said. This time my eye did twitch. I came up with an excuse to leave and ran back to the hotel. I had a bone to pick with Frank. The room was dark where I could hardly see a thing. I hugged the walls to avoid tripping over the body. Then I stormed over to the bed where Weller was even more pissed and drunk than before and grabbed him up to slam him against the wall. “Jesus, Ross What is going on?” Frank asked. “Oh I don’t know, how about the fact that you really did know this girl and you threatened her multiple times? When were you going to be telling me that?” Frank looked scared like he thought I might beat him up. So he spilled. “Okay; we slept together. She works at some security firm. Anyway I stumbled into her after I was banned from one of her clients’ casinos. I don’t normally go when but I was feeling lucky and okay maybe a little depressed. They said I was counting cards... bunch of lousy jerks. Anyway, Julie told me about this underground clubhouse they do after hours. It sounded fun so I went for a few games.
